Bark River Mini CAN dilemma!

Apparently in my recent consumer frenzy to buy a Bark River Mini Canadian, I forgot to cancel one of my back-ordered attempts. As a result I have TWO Mini Canadians! I intend to keep only one; I'd ultimately be satisfied with either, but I cannot for the life of me make up my mind.

One is a first production run with hollow pins and green canvas micarta handles. The other is a later version with synthetic (I don't know what) brown and tan burl handles and mosaic pins.

The first production run Mini-C has somewhat more rounded handles, a deeper choil, and the blade is shaped more like a drop point hunter. The later version has slightly blockier handles, a lanyard hole, a shallower choil, and the blade has more belly like a skinner.

I prefer the blade shape of the first production run version, but the other one is more pleasing to my eye.

The differences are slight and almost meaningless, but I still can't seem to decide!

can you post some pics?

Id love to help out!

do you have any pictures? :)

Id like to see them, honest! I can help if you want to email them to me?

I agree that the burl is not fake.

I think you have a wonderful dilema. If the knife is going to see some tough duty, I'd keep the Green Canvas Micarta. Otherwise, I'd stay with the beautiful burl.

Here's mine:

If it's going to be a working knife, then pick the one that will be a better tool. If not, go with the other.

I intend to use the knife regularly as an edc but not necessarily abusively. I'm leaning towards the micarta because it is a tad slimmer for pocket carrying, and is more comfortable to hold. I like the security of a deeper choil to, since they are SHARP.

Why not keep both? Well, they're essentially the same knife. I don't need two so I'm going to sell one (or maybe trade it for something interesting of similar value).

Well, I thought since you liked the knife so much, that you might use one for your daily EDC and the other you might keep in a vehicle or something.

Why not keep the fancy one and modify the blade shape and handle thickness? I have a couple of Bark River Micro's and have done that to them.

I would also suggest keeping both of them. Have one you use and one to keep nice. ( Plus You will always have a back up if you loose one .) I have an Upland special with Black canvas, and I Love it. I think I will order one with a more traditional handle.

Best of luck,
John

This really isn't such a bad problem to have, is it? One day I favor the micarta. The next day, I decide on the burl/mosaic. I guess it doesn't matter which one I keep if I like them both. Maybe I should keep 'em both, or trade one.

It is not a bad problem at all, I would keep it. After trading it you may find that you miss it. Keep in mind that you can always trade it later down the road, unless there is something else you would rither have now.

Best of luck,
John
