I just got a Bark River Knife & Tool Mini-Canadian from A. G. Russell (who provided their usual fine service & speedy delivery).

I am very impressed with this little knife.

I ordered one with green canvas micarta scales. Other than a very small irregularity on one side, these were well made. There is a slight swell near the butt end that provides a better grip. The handle itself is small, but comfortable in the hand, and the sizeable choil allows the user to move the hand up if desired. There is a lanyard hole on the version I received (first production run), though I have seen pictures of (earlier?) versions did not have one.

The grinds are well done, and it came with a shaving sharp convex grind.

Included was a well made and tightly fitting sheath, though I also ordered one of A. G. Russell's pocket sheaths, which is a perfect fit.

The knife is small, but very solid due to a full tang and fairly thick spine (but thin edge). It is small enough to comfortably fit in a front pocket sheath, yet I have no fears about the ability of this knife to take extremely hard use. It could be used as a general utility knife, a hunting/caping knife, and (with the proper kydex sheath) even a neck knife--though the handle might print with a tightly fitting shirt.

specs:
steel: A2
OAL: 6"
blade length, sharp portion: 2.125"

Agree with everything you say. Just got one delivered to the UK (African Blackwood handles), and what I thought was going to be useful sometimes knife could well find its way to EDC

I'd be interested to know how the A. G. Russell pocket sheath works out. Does it fit ok in jeans front pockets? That could be the clincher

Good review :)

I have a Mini Canadian and I love it. I attached a snap swivel to the Sheath Loop and carry it as a dangler.

Did you by the Hip Pocket Sheat that A.G. sells for the Woodswalker for the Mini Canadian? How does it work with the knife?

Scott

Yes, the pocket sheath is the one made for the Woodswalker; the number for the sheath is AGPR-HPS.

And yes, it does fit nicely into the front pocket of jeans.

Actually, I'm kicking myself for not getting one of these sheaths before; this fits a number of my knives very well.

Thanks for the review. I like small fixed blade knives that can be carried in a pocket. A few weeks ago, I found a place that is selling them with orange G10 scales and am thinking about getting one. Seems like a handy tool.
