Hey guys looking for some advice. I am looking for a larger blade to handle all around general use in camp.
So currently for use in the field I do have a blind horse bushcrafter scandi and for when I dnt fee like bringing an axe I have an esse junglas and a few small neck knives. The buschrafter although made of a thick stock has such a fine edge its not really what I want to use when I realy need to beet on something or pound through nots. Obviously the junglas handles that role well and neither make a good hunting knife and my neck knives are a little small for that role as well.
I was basicaly looking for a knife4"-5" blade convex or FFG. I've been super impessed with fallkniven the stainlesswould be nice. Its desnt have that wow factor as it is rather utilitarian but obviously it is an efective knife. One issue is the fallknivens are a little thin in the handle and I have tendon damage in my hands that makes gripping a smal handle tuff. The canadian specil at 4" isv a little smalle than I like but I'm thinking the wide handle may be helpfull. The angle on te nessmuck handle would be great but I haven't found an images to show its profile. Open to thoughts ad if anyone has pictures of the three together or sepeartea especially showing handle thickness it would be so appreciated.
Thanks

I have not had the actual BR's in hand, but I have had the thermorun S1 in hand.
My solution was to get the S1 fulltang blank and make a thicker homemade handle.

Out of the smaller standard FK's I think the H1 is in a league of its own.
The handle fills the hand very well and respond when You put force behind the cut.
This goes also for the NL5 Idun.

If You go with from the shelf FK's, these two will fill Your needs.

Below are the handles of a H1 with a custom handle, an S1 and a Canadian Special. Sorry about the photo quality. The S1 handle fills the hand more than the Canadian Special, but the H1 custom handle feels the best in use with no hot spots. I would agree with Mikael's comment about the as I prefer the H1 stock handle to the F1 & S1 as well. The H1 is the sleeper in the Fallkniven family IMO. (The WM1 is under-appreciated as well.)

Given the situation you described, I think you would find the S1's handle more to your liking than the Canadian Special, but I would recommend you look at the H1 as well as custom handled version of either Fallkniven. You may want to consider some of the offerings of the many skilled custom makers on the forum who could create a handle tailored to you. Best wishes.

Anyone have any experiance with the bark river nessmuk. 4.75" blade which is right around what I'm looking for.
I'm not a big fan of the H1 blade. I would love an s1 custom but its outside my budget.
There is something about the nessmuck and canadian blade shapes that keep pulling me in, probably just that they are different from my usual drop and spear points

The BR Nessmuck is fairly new on the market and not many has had the time to use it.
As You like it, there's only one solution to Your Q:

-Get the Nessmuck!:D
