Bark River Rehandling?

Hi, guys!

Hey, I read somewhere that Bark River will rehandle other makers' knives...is that true? In particular, I've got a couple of Cold Steels that I wanted a nicer rehandle; a TrailMaster and a Laredo (both Carbon V). What would a job like that run?

In a related question, I've seen the wire tang pics of the Laredo; and read the Cold Steel explanation. It seems logical...but I don't have the expertise to validate it. I'm thinking, though, that if the knife was strictly a fighter, not a heavy chopper, and if the tightening nut were properly anchored in the right material; it seems like it would be a pretty durable handle. I figure that a good, solid G10 would do the trick, if it were done by someone who knew what they were doing. That's why I'd love to send it to Bark River.

What do you guys think? Would it be worth rehandling a Laredo? I should say that the knife is currently unused; so the handle is just fine as is. I prefer black, though; so I figured that I would explore re-handling possibilities, if it would be worthwhile.

Thanks!

Bark River recently changed their policies regarding rehandling. Apparently they had been getting far too many requests and it was beginning to take away from the rest of their business.
They have a partnership of sorts with another guy over at KnifeForums to do their rehandling services. For more information, check out THIS THREAD or check out his website HERE.

Hello sir, I know this thread is quite old but it came up when I googled this topic. Both the links you provided are dead now, do you still have information about who I can go to for rescaling?

The best place to try would be the "Services wanted" section of the knife makers area. https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/wanted-knifemaker-craftsman-related-services.871/

You'll only be able to see your thread without the proper membership level, bit the craftsmen here can see all of them.

Welcome
This is a great forum with lots of great members.
There is one maker who I regularly recommend, that is often willing to modify other knives.

If you are in the Facebook groups there are a couple guys that are approved by Bark river to rehandle. Michael Terrace is one of them and who I would pick. I've had a couple done by Matt Davis but I think he's taking a hiatus, and my last one was a subpar job if I'm honest. There might be one more but those were the main 2

Dang, I don’t have facebook. Is there any other way of contacting Mr. Terrace?

eclancy313 eclancy313 .

Just so I'm clear.....?

You want a bark river knife rehandled, or a different make of knife?

A picture of the knife would help, too

I looked but couldn't find another way to contact him. Join the Bark river Boys group. That's where anything sales related happens. There is a bark river knives group too but no sales in that one. Then you can find Michael and send him a message. Might help to mention that you were referred by someone and that's why you're new to the group. Sometimes they're leary of new comers because of all the scammers lately.

Finding the exact mosiac pin may or may not be doable?
It looks like iron wood (i think?)
a maker Should be able to do it.

But......Iron wood is not cheap, and a rehandling job would be pricy too. Probably cost as much as that knife.

Like another said, Me personally.... I just think you should buy another knife with iron wood handles.

Only reason to do it is for sentimental reasons. If there is any.
