Bark River sheath question

When I ordered this Bark River around six weeks ago, I remember the person I spoke with on the phone mentioned that the sheath that the Woodland Special comes with can be worn in either an up/down or cross draw position. I figured out the up/down pretty easily. But cross draw? Really? Some hidden passageway the belt can slide through? Or maybe a secret handshake that didn't come with the instructions? Wonderful knife and great sheath anyhow - but I'm just not getting the cross draw.

I've used it, and it works great. Put it on your other hip (left) and then there's two ways to thread it. If you thread it in one side and out the middle, it will either hang straight (if using one side of the loop) or at a severe cant (using the other side). If you put it through both, it should cant about 45 degrees (I'll try to find a picture).

It should hang at about a 45 degree angle, making it easily accessible with your offhand.

I don't have a great pic, but here's how it should look crossdraw.

You can either set it up like this, or go through the middle. Going through the middle cants it even further, but there's less leather holding it.

Thanks, guys. Yep, I've gotten it around 45 degree angle in the past, but only on the same side as the hand I hold it with. Now I see what is meant by cross draw. I guess there was a secret handshake. Much appreciated.

Phew, I was hoping I explained it alright. It's always much easier with pictures and I couldn't take any right now.

I bought a left hand sheath to put on my right side for crossdraw when I had my shoulder surgery awhile ago, so they do have those available if you're looking for one. Or just let me know, I'm not using it anymore.

edit: Actually, it's a bit smaller left hand version without the firesteel, so probably not what you're looking for.

Put the sheath and knife on the left side today. The belt is holding it nice and tight at nearly a 60 degree angle. Very nice. Just what I was looking for. Thanks for the explanations.

I can say this - I can't believe how much gear I've accumulated over the past year. The Bark river on my hip, a Sunwayman clipped to my left pocket. A Charlow in my right pocket....

Good thing I work out of my home office. This fixed blade could never go to downtown Cleveland with me if I still had an office there. There are a few very nice aspects of working out of a home office, and knife considerations is one of those benefits. Another benefit is dramatic fuel savings - I fill the car gas tank every two months whether it needs it or not.
