The mailman just delivered my new Bark River STS-3. The best compliment I can give the knife right now is this simple truth: It is exactly what I thought I was buying. This knife is solid and fits my hand well. I have only had it for a couple of hours so all it has been through to this point is some whittling in the yard. The convex grind allows you to shave off onion-peel thin layers of wood and the wide blade is easy to maneuver. It came from the box as sharp as you would expect a Barkie. The handle materiel works well with sweaty hands. The handle shape fits me well and I have as of yet not run into the well publicized problem of getting "bitten" by the tang that was left exposed for the lanyard hole. Well done BRKT. I will not be able to put it through any camping chores soon since I live in the southwest and all the public lands are currently closed due to the danger of forest fires. This looks to be a great general purpose knife.

This one has been tempting me for months! Competition for my F1!

I suspect there won't be much middle ground for people that pick up this knife, they will love it or they won't. I have had a Buck Big Sky for years and it is the best field dressing knife I have ever used. I hate to use my field dressing knife for other work though and ended up with a bunch of general purpose camp knives with different blade styles. It finally struck me that I may want a field knife that is similar to the design of the other knife I love so much. This STS-3 Barkie is pretty close to that Buck Big Sky in blade length and width. It feels meatier in the hand though, just like a camp knife should. This knife comes out of the box and just seems ready to work. I have still only done a few made up tasks around the house, but it feels good in the hand.
