It has a hidden tang.

I have not held a Teddy II, but I love Blackjack Knives models 1-7 and 5, which are built at the same factory (Bark River) using similar construction. Hidden tang knives can be plenty durable so long as they are built properly, like BRKT knives are. The Blackjack hidden tang knives have incredible balance and are very light thanks to not having unnecessary steel under the handle. If you ever have a problem with the Teddy it's backed by BRKT's lifetime warranty. I carry my hidden tang BJK model 5 all the time. I was leery of the construction, it was my first hidden tang knife, but it's been a great knife and always gets compliments thanks to the traditional styling and crazy sharp convexed tool steel blade.

Micarta is far more durable than leather or wood. Leather absorbs water, sweat, and whatever else and can literally rot off of the knife if you don't take care of it. Wood can shrink or expand and pop loose from the tang, even if bolted and epoxied onto a full tang. If I did want a wood handle on a knife, it would be a hidden tang as they're less likely to show a problem in the first place, and far easier to work on if the handle ever does fail for some reason. Also, being protected at the top and bottom (handguard and pommel) would make me feel better.

You're right about the wood and leather problems, for the extra money wood and leather are nice but, like you said micarta is cheaper yet, more durable!.
My choices were Golden elder burl, Stacked leather, and maple.

Tough decision to make this Christmas, Thank you Matthew!

I've settled on two types Desert ironwood & Stacked leather, I wanted the sheep horn but those sell like hotcakes and they're more expensive.
I'm halfway there funds wise :-)
