I just recieved a Bark River Teddy I ordered on Monday. What a beautiful knife! It is also quite a departure from the typical Bark River knife. This one has an excellent double guard. The blade is 6 & 1/4 inch of A2 steel, convex ground, with a blood groove.

I hope there will be more Bark Rivers like this one. Randall Made now has competition.

Just saw them at DLT Trading and they are really great looking knives for a reasonable price. What material handles did you get on yours?

I'm also gonna pick me up one of these fine knives one of these days. The great thing is that the Teddy is also available with a single guard in a variety of handle materials, both natural and manmade.

Another good thing about it is that I noticed that the production version has a longer handle than the prototype. I liked the prototype handle length better and asked Mike Stewart if it would be possible to get a Teddy made with the proportions of the prototype. He told me it was no problem; all I have to do is place an order and remind them about it.

Glad to hear you like it, and that it looks as good in person as in pictures. I've been considering getting one, and you may have decided me.

I recently bought a BRK&T White Series Huntsman and was very impressed. That's when I started looking at the Teddy Bowie.

I did notice that the handle is a tad longer than on most knives. Not much, though. I compared it to a couple of other knives I own with similar length blades, and the handle was only about 1/2 inch longer.

BTW - I would encourage anyone planning to buy the Teddy to do a search on Ebay. The day after I ordered mine, I saw the same model advertised on Ebay by another company for about $23 less - damn!

very well made knives, we had one as a raffle giveaway from Bark River/Mike Stewart at our monthly NJ KCA meetings!

good score! and I also dont think the 23 dollars [price difference] was a bad investment if you got what you wanted?!

google is your friend, though~

enjoy the knife, regardless!

Well I just ordered one off ebay with the green micarta handles. Just from the looks (with a full guard) and premium A-2 steel, and a first production run, I don't see how I can go wrong. Thanks W.T. for the heads up. And like LaBella said, don't worry about the extra $23 you spent - you got a good knife at a good price nevertheless.

I think the Bark Rivers are too dangerous for the average knife user (and especially a first time user).

They are too dangerous because with their convex grinds and A2 steel blades they are too sharp. One mistake or dropped knife and it is stitches time.

For the experienced hunter, camper, fisherman, etc. they are great though.

My favorite is the Huntsman (with a good blade guard).

It is just the right size and blade configuration, IMHO.

My problem with all Bark River knives I have seen up until the Teddy came out is their tiny or altogether absent guards. That is what makes them dangerous in my opinion. I was very happy to find the Teddy because it has an ample double guard.

The lack of guards doesn't seem to hurt the popularity of Bark River knives, though. People rave about them. Nothing wrong with buying a guardless knife if a person likes them that way, I guess. Plus guardless knives are endorsed by the Association of Emergency Room Doctors. ;)
