I'm looking at a bark river trailbuddy III. I like the design and overall appearance of the series but the original is a little smaller than I like and I'm concerned that the III might be too large. I was attracted to this model by the scales and haven't seen II's available. Does anyone own the III and want to offer an opinion. This would be used as a camp knife and I do have a smaller edc that I use for more delicate work. Also does anyone offer a different sheath option? I like bark river's quality but am not a huge fan of the alligator leather.

If You like it, why not try it?

Generally 8" blade works very well for a campknife and it's my favorite size for a large knife.

I don't have the Trailbuddy models, but several other BR's in this size.
The most recent purchase was the Rogue and it will work well for a campknife.
If You think the III is too large, why not look at the Rogue?

Regards
Mikael

I have both the original TB and the TBIII. Both are great knives. My TBIII has beautiful emerald green elder burl scales and is displayed on my kitchen counter. It looks good against the granite counter tops and in addition it's handy for a lot of my kitchen prep. It's taken the place of several of my chef knives. It's not the best for some tasks but not all large knives are. That's where the original TB earns its keep.
