I bought this knife a year ago but never really used it hard untill today.I was chopping soft and hard woods around my house for couple hours.Even though the knife is small it chops and cuts really well! After all that work it still shaved hair and was sharp.I put it on a strop for no more than 10 passes on each side and its scary sharp again now.Even though the grind on this knife was little univen straight form factory it is an excellent performer! A big Plus for Bark River and their heat treatment of 1085:)! also saber convex grind rocks too!

Any pics?

I was always fascinated by that knife, especially the "vestable" size. Have you ever tried actually carrying it inside jacket? I know it's quite overkill, but say, in rural use it would be fun to carry around?

It could be carried that way probably....what impresses me is really the performance of the knife for its size. And the handle and bowie blade shape is really useful providing excellent balance!

I own 7 Barkies, and they are all great knives. On a day to day basis, I like to carry a fixed blade, and my PSK can go in pocket or on the belt. It's so small, no one sees it, and it looks like a child's knife, or a shruken full sized knife.
I also have an IMP, that's a full sized handle with a 2.5" blade. I'd like to see some pics of your pocket Bowie in hand, all the pics I've seen are out of context.

Thanks for the pics! It has looks, and I like the sheath too!
So it's too big for vest eh?

I had one of those in dark curly maple. Nice knife. I broke mine batonning some tough maple. My replacement was a Smoke Jumper, which handles rough use just fine. The was an inclusion in the tang of my Vest Pocket Bowie that caused the failure. But Bark River took care of me, so no compaints. The VP Bowie was prettier, but I really trust the Smoke Jumper more.

Do you think the reason for the breakage was the stick tang? I wonder if you would have had the same result with a full tang blade.

Like Vic has stated, there was a flaw in the steel.

A full tang knife might have survived with the flaw, it might have not.

Hundreds where made, only a heavy hande user like my friend HD broke one.

The key is that the balance of the knife would be totally different,

...and the balance and feel of the VPB is awesome.

I love mine just the way it is.

My three favorite Bowies where made in the Bark River Shop,

...they all have seen very hard use,

...they all feature hidden tangs,

...and they all are more lively in-hand then similar full tang knives.

I bet Vic misses his VPB, :grumpy: ...but I won't trade mine for his Smoke Jumper.

Just one man's opinion.

Thanks for the Post, I didn't even know Bark River used any other steel than A2. I'd love to have a Bravo in 1085.
