Congratulations! The Highland is an outstanding knife - a very thick, strong blade.

It's the third from top (with Impala scales)

Wow, nice collection. Bark River's design and attention to detail looks pretty outstanding, I always wondered how they performed though. If I had a knife that looked like that I'd be afraid to use it to be honest. I've been really looking at their Machete specifically. Their website never seems to work for me so its hard to tell what they entirely offer but on the common knife sites I see pictures all the time. Basically I guess what this windbag is asking is, how do they hold up as a field knife compared to other knives of a similar pricerange? or do you just keep them to look at them?

They hold up very well. I use a Bravo 2 alongside my Fallkniven A2 as general camp duty knives. Both knives perform exceptionally well, and, very comprable to each other.

Bark River doesn't maintain their website all that well, you are better off to search the supplier sites (knives ship free, DLT Trading, the knife connection, Mcknight cutlery, etc.) for information on the varuious models available and specs.

Bark River also offers their knives in an extensive variety of handle materials including G-10 and Micarta in addition to exotic woods and other natural materials. You can purchase a knife that you don't have to worry about using hard.

Actually you don't have to worry about any Bark River knife, the warranty is bullet proof and rates right up there with the very best of the best.

Thanks for the review Dagnabbit, it seems as though the exotic wood handles cost comparable to the micarta/g10 ones. I may have to look at getting one if you say they are as tough as the fallknivens.

I bought my Bravo 2 with Black Canvas Micarta handles just because I couldn't see any reason to beat up on some beautiful burl. My daughters both have Pro Scalpels with Burl handles that they use for every day tasks when enjoying the outdoors, and I have a burl handled Canadian Sportsman II in my tackle box. I'm also using burl handled knives in the kitchen (BRKT and others) on a daily basis and they are holding up well.

There are many Bark River owners using wood handled knives as hard as any other knife and they report being very satisfied with them. In the event a handle, cracks, breaks, comes loose, or whatever it will be replaced/repaired free of charge under warranty.

If the knife gets beat up looking after a few years you can send it back to BRKT for a spa treatment at a very reasonable cost.

I would be very surprised if you found yourself disappointed with ownership of either a Bark River or Fallkniven knife.

My daughter and I spent an afternoon beating up our camp knives to see what kind of abuse they would stand up to.

Here are a few photos.

I'll add to the "Got a new Barkie" thread.
First one's I've owned...

- Sperati Spear Point(disco'd model and one-of-a-kind handle)
- Bravo-1 with Ghost Green Jade handle in A2

Great knives!

Yep, they're tough as nails. I look at it like this; if I'm gonna beat the piss out of it, I get micarta or g10. If I want to sit and stare at it, I get a pretty burl or horn. The wood and horn handles are pretty stout, but I can't bring myself to abuse them. Use, but not abuse.

Hold a damn good edge, too.

I own two of them, couldn't be more satisfied!!! Mike Stewart and the crew are doing some great work! BTW, their warranty is superb, I have excercised it once on a cracked piece of amboinya (sp) wood and couldn't have asked for better service.
