This is my first tanto design. I call it the Hokkaido after the Hokkaido Inu breed of dog pictured below. This blade is made of CPM D2 5/32" thick that has been hollowed ground with a convexed tip for strength. The blade has a 5.25" cutting edge with a satin finish. The Rockwell hardness of the blade is 60. The scales are black linen micarta on a tapered tang. The overall length is 10.75". The grind was inspired by Bob Lum's work. I have always admired his tantos as I'm sure you have too. I would appreciate any comments

Gorgeous, John! One of my all time favorite factory blades was a Lum tanto from Spyderco. Your knife brings back memories of that blade (it was stolen about 5 years ago in a home break in....lost about $1500 in knives and two pistols). I love the tip grind. Great job!

Oh, John, you really outdid yourself on this one. Those grinds are incredible. Just outstanding!

Bam!! I am also a fan of Mr. Lum, but that knife is all you. Awesome work. Are you liking the CPM D-2 ?

I have to say, I generally don't like tantos, but I'll easily make an exception for this one! The varied grinding and the swedge, the overall lines... just amazing.

that's a friggin cool knife.

That's the best looking modern tanto I've ever seen, and I'll include the Lum in that comparison. Very, very nice.
