My first Barkie got here from DLT today. Superfast on the shipping! First impressions....Feels great in the hand...thought I knew what "scary" sharp was until I pulled this outta the box and learned what "scary" was. Now to learn the strop! PSK is on the way too. I threw a Lava in the pic below so there was some size comparison for those looking to get one. Definite;y a solid feel for such a small knife. I will be rotating this with the PSK for awhile and then will post some thoughts.

Sorry for pic quality

That's really sweet! How will you be carrying it?

I've got the KSF Sharpshooter pocket sheath that I will use to carry my Lil Creek when it comes.

Excellent! That new sheath is, literally, a 100% improvement over the old pouch-style that the mini-Canadian (and others) used to come with.

Bobnery, they do come sharp from Michigan, BUT, you have yet to hone, strop, and refine the edge to true "scariness"!!! I would recommend you use that edge until it just starts to lose it's crispness, and in the meantime get your sharpening supplies ready. Keep your angle low and your pressure light. You'll love it!

My convex sharpening kit. The 1500/2000 sees the most use, followed by the strop:

Each is a piece of medium density fiberboard about 11"x3"x3/4" with 7-8 oz leather glued on both sides. THen I tape the wet/dry at the ends.

/\Those/\ are nice. I started looking for my sharpening supplies locally and I'm having problems finding any grit finer than 600. Guess I need to order some from online. The stropping thing is sketchy. I know I will have to fight the urge to apply too much force and to not turn the blade too far on the strokes. It amazes me how using a leather strop and maybe some compound can bring out the edge. It just seems like you have to use something harder than steel. I guess though I will be learning soon enough. Fighting the urge to buy the Mini C's big brother the Special is rough too.:)

nice! ive got mini canadian too, and carry it frequently as a “steak knife”
ya know, small, inoculous and very sharp

edit: oops, mine is micro... hope to get me mini someday

Nice sharpening kit! I might have to make some of those.

It is basically true what Halfcocked says, but in the event your auto-parts stores don't have what you need, woodworking supply stores generall do.....

For leather, I use Tandy, but I've also bought bags of scraps (about $5) from hobby stores such as Hobby Lobby. In fact, the leather on my wet/dry strops was cut from a $5 bag of 'Lobby scraps. THen I used vege-tanned Tandy leather for the two strops loaded with chromium oxide and Thiers Issard.

Again, as good a job as BRKT does before shipping out their knives, you have work to do before dogs run from the sight of your knife.... before bears tremble at the faintest whiff of the edge.... before you bolt upright in the middle of the night, in a cold sweat, after suffering a nightmare about the edge sharpness of your mini-Canadian.

That you have to do yourself...... ((( :D )))
