I just found a Barlow knife in my grandfather's old tool box. I don't know anything about Barlow knives and was wondering if I could get some advice It is stamped Imperial Prov RIA and USA vertical next to those stamps. Blade style is odd. I have never seen this style before. Handle is comfortable but seems to be cheap. Blade is great!

The Barlow is a very old pattern that's been around a long time.
Imperial made millions of them using their innovative economical shell construction.
Instead of having bolsters and handle scales pinned on you have a knife that's pinned together and has a hollow stamped side panel with a very thin handle scale ot sometimes little more than a plastic film that looks like a handle scale.
The side panels are attached with bend over tabs at the top and bottom.

They were made to be inexpensive, but the blades are great. They take a great edge, and they slice very well because they're so thin.

This sounds like the very common tang stamp they used from 1955-1988.

Cool knife.
You might want to post this in the traditional forum. This is right up their alley.
