Do any of the major knife manufacturers make a "nuthin' fancy" wood handled Barlow with solid bolsters? Preferably without a fancy knife price.

Plenty of bargains on the secondary market from most of the big manufacturers including a lot of new old stock.

Queen #69 with D2 and walnut is about $70. But there are about a zillion older knives that fit the bill for pennies on the dollar, as Bob mentioned.

Canal St makes one in American chestnut with stainless bolsters and liners and Latrobe 14-4 steel.

Utica Cutlery and Blue Ridge Cutlery's line of Primble Knives make mid level Barlows. Mid Level price, mid level quality. You should be able to pick up a nice Boker tree Brand on the bay for a reasonable price.

I am amazed that no one as said this yet  check out colt and Rough Rider knives .

Utica or Bear & Son are probably your best bets unless you want to go up in price. BDev is correct, RR and Colt don't make a standard barlow with wood handles any more. Although I'd recommend a RR any day. Great barlows - I especially like the Bark Bone.

I have the Rough Rider Barlow with imitation Alabone. Great knife, but a little fancy for EDC.
No Rough Riders with wood that I can find. Or Colt, and Buck does not make a Barlow.

A quick search turned up a new old stock Primble Barlow with wood covers for $60. If you're interested, VM me and I'll tell you where.

Are Frost knives still junk, or have they improved to at least Rough Rider quality?

AG Russell makes a medium barlow in cocobolo wood and it is a very simple, solid bolster barlow. Price is very reasonable and the fit and finish is excellent. Its stainless and it is a lockback, but its a very solid, no frills, well-built knife. Highly recommend!

Lots of old Bokers out there, I've found Queen made Robesons out there. Seen good prices on Queen Burke collaboration barlows, but that's bone.

I have Barlow fever and the AG Russell version looks like the cure.
Yellow fever, too.
