Perhaps one of the most popular patterns of all time is the humble little Barlow pattern.. A pattern that has been with us for many years. Please share any and all your pictures here and any stories that you would like to tell us about the knives and the folks who used them.

I'll start it off with this old case I got at a local show here not far from where I live. I actually bought two of these from the same fellow but gave the mate away to a very fine friend because his Grandad had the identical knife that he recalled so vividly from his youth. Although secretly I did not want to part with it, the look on his face when he received it from me made the gesture very worthwhile.

I had a real nice Boker barlow, real pretty handle, burnt wood or bone, or something similar, sold it. Had an old old Colonial barlow, cleaned off the rust, put a good edge on it and gave it to my sister. Bought an Old Cutler (brand?), and gave that to my other sister. Now, as I have gotten into the older designs, I have developed a new appreciation for Barlows.

Here's a favorite, which kicked off a spate of Schrade collecting for me. It is so nicely made, I have purchased several more Schrades.

Sorry, the tang is blurred in this scan, but it is A Schrade Cut. Co.

Nice Barlows everyone! That CJ is great s-k. I have 2 of them, but the bolster stamping isn't nearly as clear on mine.
Nice stag on that pair, Bill!
Greg, what can I say. If I asked people to post left-handed, upside-down stock whittlers, you would probably show us some beautiful Cripple Creek examples:D :D !
Very nice. I love Barlow threads sunnyd, Thanks for starting this one, and with a worthy knife, and a tale of generosity!!

A few more to keep the ball rolling!

Outstanding collection of old barlows waynorth. Very nice e.g.s Thomason and El lobo. I really like that Daddy and Jr set and great bone on the pair of Queens. Thanks for sharing them.

Those Queens are beautiful, Thomason. I like the dyes they used in those days, and the fact that they improved the barlow, your "basic" pocket knife, by sinking the joint with that bolster projection!
For any newbies in attendance, a "sunk" joint hides the "run up" or back point of the tang to protect your pocket from wearing out. A classy detail on a common knife.
One of the things I like most about collecting Barlows is the variety of bolster stamps. The marketing effort to sell these knives, arguably the most common sale for a cutlery company, so their "bread and butter", led to putting a fancy mark on them to make them attractive.
So we see logos, pictures, initials and "tag lines". This makes for a nice, attractive collection.
Top that off with the blade variations, and it is almost endless. Case XX barlows have tang stamp variations on otherwise identical knives as well. A barlow collection can keep you busy for many years!!
Some of these were posted in another Barlow thread, so please excuse the repetition. Here's another bunch;

That daddy is a grand-daddy now Blues! Really nice!!
And 92d, you are breakin' my heart with that Tony!! Fab!!

What a splendid spread of beautiful Barlows you all have got here! They are all just great. Kudos to y'all.

jacknife, my local hardware store just got that model you have shown in your post. I have nearly bought the darn thing 4-5 times now. I would have already but he is so darn high on the price tag that I just cannot bring myself to take the plunge.

I must confess that I got a sneak peak at Blues's antique Russel Barlow while chatting with him offline last week and that little gem was the inspiration for the thread here.

It appears that someone here has been holding out on his marvelous collection of Barlows.. Charlie what a wonderful array of vintage Barlows.

Here is a custom from one of our well known knifemakers members here at bf.. Snakewood and ATS-34 that takes a razor edge and is the sharpest knife I own in that steel.

I drug these over from another thread for another look. They belong here, 2 Taylor Eye Witness Brand knives from the TBose Barlow collection. One is in a trapper config and one has a bail...kinda different for Barlows isn't it?

I believe Queen made this Russell 100 year commemorative model in '75.

EDIT - As pointed out by a couple of my cohorts here, it was made by Schrade, not Queen. I was too lazy to check Levine's guide again and I was going by memory. Going by memory is a big mistake for a combination goofy doofus and geezer.
