A barlow was the first and only knife I lost, when I was a kid....It was during archery season . I was 14 and harvested my first buck with a bow...Used the barlow to field dress him,,set it down and didn't realize it until we were back at the truck..Walked back and searched everywhere with no luck..Over the years I've never picked up another one...

I got about $40.00 to spend..
Thanks

I think you could find a Boker Barlow for that price, and I also think you'd be happy with it :)

Any good man from Pittsburgh ought to have a Barlow made in PA! :D I say save up another $40 & talk to them over in Titusville!! They sure look nice

The Titusville is a tad over priced and you can get a nice Boker Barlow or Case Barlow for what you have with the quality just as good as the Titusville. Bear & Sons also makes a nice Barlow. Many think Bear & Sons are low quality knives but I've found the ones I have to be first rate.

Here's a Bear & Sons Red Stag Barlow - great fit and finish. It's got scratches on it because I actually use it. It performs just great and I got it for less than a 30-dollar bill.

I haven't seen any recent German-made Boker knives in a Barlow pattern.
I'm not seeing anything at the Queen website either.
Looks like Case only has a couple of choices now, and they're all expensive handle models.

Weird, I guess Barlow knives aren't as popular as they used to be. :(

Have you investigated the AG Russell Lockback Barlow?

There's a Chinese import Old Timer Barlow for about the same price and probably close to the same quality as the Imperial Barlow knives I remember as a kid. Ditto Boker Magnum Barlow knives.
I can't vouch for them, but Rough Rider has a large selection of Barlow knives and RR has a good reputation around the forums.
Too bad these Asian imports, regardless of quality, are stainless instead of the carbon steel that I (we?) remember from years ago.

I got to agree, I have 4 barlows and the Boker is the one with the most miles on it. Nice inexpensive Barlow.

awww man! i lost an old usa made schrade old timer a few years back that same way.

Utica makes a darn good knife for the money.
Boker has one or two around that price range. I'd stay away from Bear (bad personal experience)

What do you guys think about the Schrade SCH280RPB? Its an Old Timer Red pick bone that looks nice..$20.00 +shipping..

I see new ones for sale on that big auction site all the time. Search title and description for "Boker, carbon, barlow, knife."

It'll be Chinese and stainless, but probably perfectly good. I have little quarrel with a Barlow knife as long as it has solid bolsters, myself.

I asked about current Schrade quality on another post and several members weren't to happy with the steel..Schrade uses 7CR17, rockwell 54-56 which is comparable to 440A..Its what Gerber and CRKT uses,, probably other knife manufactures as well...The Barlow 280RPB and 280OT models keep catching my attention..They look like well made knives but I have now way of knowing unless I order them..

Maybe you'd better order one and give us another opinion.

I'm keen on the Böker carbon option too, the auction site offers them and Böker do a very decent and under appreciated knife. Well up to CASE level from my experience.

If you opt for a Chinese knife, I'd strongly recommend the Rough Rider Barlows in stainless rather than other import models. Well enough made, with a very good choice of handle materials
