I'm looking for a "good" but user not collector traditional two blade Barlow.

Anyone have any suggestions on mfrs and sites to purchase from?

Your choices are somewhat limited if you are looking for a standard production barlow pattern by a US manufacturer. The only US manufacturers that I know of that still make this venerable pattern are Queen, Camillus, Colonial, and Utica. Schrade may offer them in their Scrimshaw series. All of these would be stainless steel except for the Colonial. IMHO, making a barlow in SS is sacreligious!. Someone told me that Colonial has gone under, so that may be one choice gone. Camillus had until recently offered a real old style Barlow with steel bolsters, CS blades, and sawcut black plastic handles. I think it has been dropped now, and their other choice is a model in SS with a bail on the handle.

In German manufacturers, Boker is the only one that I know of that still may offer the barlow pattern.

You can find a Boker barlow with carbon steel clip and pen blades and tortoise shell celluloid handle at
Bestknives. Or you could get it with sawcut Delrin handles at Knifecountry. Can't speak to the quality, since I've never handled one.

Great info. I grew up carrying one and love it. It's just at the sentimental value point so I don't want to loose it, But am very comfortable with the shape/design (and carbon!)

Smokey Mt. Knife Works had the
Camillus Barlow the last time
I was there. eknifeworks.com
is the address. Search for
barlow, you will find several.

That is a nice looking Barlow. If I don't find anything at the next show, I may be placing an order...

You've tapped into my "secret desire". I looked high and low for someone producing a truly custom barlow. The closest I got was with WhiteWing(?)knives. They had something close, but not quite what I was looking for. So I am setting aside my fixed blades, and am setting about to make my own--my way.

It really won't be for sale, as I want to make two and give them to each one of my sons. But, here is what I am planning. Barlow design with a lockback. Hopefully, stag, if not, then probably a imitation MOP, nickle bolsters (with my name in the bolsters, single blade (maybe two bladed) of 01 tool steel. Going to install some stainless steel shim washers between the blade and the bolsters to make the blade glide open! Those barlows really fit the hand right. I was thinking of a blade design of a kind of modified persian. Oh well, just waiting for materials to show up now.-Dan

Last I knew, Parker's was still closing out a line of German Barlows in both one- and two-bladed varieties. They had black celluloid scales and the usual "Solingen steel" carbom steel blades. They seemed to be of good quality and the prices were certainly right.
