Since beginning to collect barlows I have always wanted to find a nice Kabar Dogs Head because I'm a dog lover and my dog looks exactly the shield (Pointer/Beagle). So, the other day I ran into a deal for a couple of these beauties that and couldn't refuse.

I've never seen a thread for Kabar barlows and don't know much about em' so I figured what the heck, I'll start a thread and see what the traditionals crew have to say. Hope ya like em' as much as I do.

Very nice stag on two of the three, but the brown bone is probably my favorite.

I'd be interested to find out more about these if ya'll have any info. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing your pics! Great lookin' knives! The Ka-Bar-Lo is now on my radar...:cool:

Those are great knives, made my Ka-Bar. Ka-Bar really makes some great slipjoints, imo.

But your ones are some beauties. Congratz on these :)

All very nice, and the scales seem to be particularly well matched on all three as well (my pet peeve).

Do you know what the blade steel is in these, and also the closed length?

Gorgeous set. I carry my stag Ka-Bar-Lo all the time. Its as perfect as perfect gets when it comes to barlows.

Hey Jeff, I am assuming the steel is probably some sort of SS based on the condition of the ones I own. Not sure of the length, I'm on a bachelor party road trip at the moment. :) Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge will chime in soon.

67nick, those are absolutely gorgeous knives:thumbup: They are definitely on my radar as well:cool:

Anyone know what the steel is on these guys and what year they may have been built ???

From the Kabar forum, courtesy of Paul Tsujimoto, senior engineer for Kabar:

The KA-BAR -LO was a tradional Barlow produced by KA-BAR. I don't have the exact dates but it was produced in the 1920s. KA-BAR produced the Barlow up to the 1970s.
The 1920s KA-BAR-LO came with black composite and smooth bone handles.During the later years that changed to Delrin. "KA-BAR-LO" was stamped transversely across the long front bolster.Of course the stamp changed from 'KA-BAR' to 'ka-bar'during the 1960s. There were two versions: a Spear point main blade and pen; and a Clip point main blade /pen combo. The Clip Bladeknife was designated with a 1/2.
In 1983 the KA-BAR Collectors Club Knife produced a Dog's Head Version in Stag with "KA-BAR-LO" stamped longitudinally on the Bolster. In 1985 a Dogs Head Version in Jigged Bone was produced; No stamping on the Bolster. In 1990 a bent Barlow was produced with a Clip MainBlade and Jigged Bone in Green and Blue. One had a dogs head, the other had an oval shield. No Stamping on the Bolster.

Wow! All 3 are spectacularly good-looking!

It's funny how the Barlow had been one of my least favorite traditional designs, but that has been changing, and these pics have helped a great deal.

Thanks for all the info hawaiinhawk! I can't believe the condition on mine being that they were made in the 80's, must be SS steel.
