Found this hatchet in my Grandpa's (RIP) old barn/shop. I know it's been there for AT LEAST 50 years, but can't identify any brand or logo. It has a number "2" in the head. Wood handle seems original and it's around 14 to 16 inches.
Any info ??
Any monetary value ??
Thanks for your help !

Carpenter's hatchet . The claw at the back is for removing nails . I have a True Temper about 60 years old .It has a straight cutting edge .I suspect yours is older. When I was 12 I installed cedar shingles on my house .A perfect tool for that.

Similar to American claw hatchets but with a bigger eye to accommodate European Ash. I like claw hatchets.

Fwiw, klauenbeil like that is widely used by German Armed Forces & carried on virtually all their vehicles.

Perhaps Grandpa was with the military ?

As a cool German axe, & worth a few bucks, dont expect more than a cheeseburger & beer worth.

Don't let that discourage your enthusiasm.
