Hi, I was hoping I could get some advice. I usually hang out in the traditional forums although I do own and carry a modern folder. I just found this on the beach in Florida while on vacation and figured it would make for a good project. It appears to be sand and barnacle encrusted. What would be the best method to try and bring it back to life. Thanks.

The first thing I'd do is go to town on it with a wire brush ( probably steel at first then brass to avoid damage ) to see what you actually have.

I was thinking something not quite as aggressive. Maybe a good soaking in ...?

It needs to be put in an industrial-type ultrasonic cleaner for quite a while.
That should "blow" most of the encrustation off without harming the underlying material.

Like a bigger, more powerful jewelry cleaner.
If you have a little one, it won't hurt to try it.

The knife has what is called "concretion."
An ultrasonic is the least invasive treatment, though it may not work.
You could try putting a drop of vinegar on the handle. If there is a reaction, you might try several short soaks in vinegar. Rinse thoroughly after each soak.

Used CRC and it all dissolved. Turns out to be Klein Tools 44001 from Japan. I was hoping for a diamond encrusted pirate knife.

Destined for the scrap bin with a crack like that though. Shame, it's an interesting looking little knife.
