Boy............this one really hurts me, Barney Fife (Don Knotts) was one of the best ever...very sad news to me, I still watch him and Andy almost every day....:(

Robbie Roberson :(

Wasn't aware of this until I read your post.

My favorite actors are all "character" actors instead of "stars" - and Don Knotts was at the top of the list.

RIP, Deputy Fife. Don't lose that bullet. :)

The Incredible Mr. Limpett was a favorite.

And of course on The Andy Griffith Show...

Don Knotts grew up in Morgantown, WV and graduated from my alma mater (West Virgina University).

He was best know as Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show, and The Incredible Mr. Limpet.

I know I'm getting old when my nieces and nephew say "who?", when told the news.

Add Darren McGavin to the list, died yesterday morning at age 83.

Kolchak:The Night Stalker can now chase ghost all he wants!

I've gotta say, there was nobody that could have been Barney Fife but Don Knotts. He was really the lynchpin of the Andy Griffith show, because "with Barneys" were always better shows than the later "without Barneys". I still love watching that show.

And now you tell me Darren McGavin is dead? I was a huge fan of the Night Stalker when I was a kid, and I was really disappointed when it was canceled (much too early IMHO). But he was also known for another legendary performance, the father in "A Christmas Story".

"It's a major award!!!"

RIP to both of 'em. :(

My favorite Don Knotts' movie was "How to Frame a Figg." And his performance was genius as Barney Fife. Rest in Peace Mr. Knotts.

Darren McGavin was great in "A Christmas Story." One of my favorite movies. Rest in Peace Mr. McGavin.

My all time favorite Don Knott's performance, besides Barney Fife, was when he and Andy Griffith took their stage play and made it into the movie "No TIme For Sargeants"...they were hilarious!

A couple of years ago I remember seeing a show where they got all of the old "Mayberry" gang back together (Probably something called "The Making of..."). There was Andy Griffith and Don Knotts and Ron Howard and a couple of recurring supporting actors still living. When they spoke, you could see the genuine friendship and love and respect that they all had for each other. It was a joy to watch.

Didn't know about Darren McGavin either. Another favorite. Remember the last scene in "A Christmas Story" (based on a short story by brilliant humorist Jean Shepherd, and narrated by him) at the empty Chinese restaurant?

RIP, Mr. McGavin and "Fa-ra-ra-ra-ra, ra-ra-ra-ra!" (Enjoy the duck!) :)

Awwww, man! Don Knotts AND Darren McGavin in one weekend!

I loved "Kolchak: The Night Stalker." A fantastic series, cancelled way too soon.

Gentlemen, break a leg, and rest in peace.

Here's DM at his finest
