Has anyone read Michael Janich's column in the latest edition of Tactical Knives magazine? For those who haven't, Janich writes about his custom barong which was a collaboration between a couple of Canadian knife designers, Hayes and Beshara.
It's a very cool looking piece and I was wondering if Spyderco might be interested in offering a production version for us common folk. Perhaps the Italian company who made the Forester could be approached for this project? [ jeez , do I have to do the mental heavy lifting for every knife maker?]

As noted on Spyderco's forum, Spyderco did make a Barong. It was a great knife, designed for Spyderco by Ed Schempp. It was discontinued 2 years ago.

I haven't read the article, but i assume the OP is talking about a large fixed blade...machete substitute, kinda...rather than a folder.

You may be right. Just saying that Spyderco did one rendition of a Barong already (which of course was a folder).

I look forward to the day when Spyderco brings back the Barong.

I took a peak at the article that was brought to attention. I like the idea, but I don't know if it's right up Spyderco's alley. There are other companies perhaps more suitable for large tactical blades.

This is a very good news for everyone, especially Filipino blade aficionados.
I haven't got the chance to see the blade but i would think it has got a BESH tip with plenty of choke up for stabbing and slashing.

Hopefully it will be on the market quick.

I'm still very much attached to my Big Chris Barong:

I am ready for an updated Barong by Schempp rerelease with a shortened ricasso. If its a sprint that holds true to the original, as awesome that would be as is, I'm sure Krein can work on it as he has the original.

So now we have a picture on the thread but judging from the responses, there still seems to be very little interest in a very badass looking knife. I guess most Spyderco fans just can't be lured from their fascination with small folders.
Still, Spyderco must have done pretty well with Warrior sales or they wouldn't be bringing out the Pygmy Warrior [although when that will be I don't know] I would think that those individuals who dig the Warrior brothers, like myself ,would also go for a Spyderco production version of the Barong.

That statement is probably very true. Don't get me wrong though; if Spyderco introduced a large fixed barong, I would likely pick up one without hesitation. I'd also be highly interested in a fixed blade version of their P'kal. I'm just not expecting either to show up in their lineup anytime soon.

If Spyderco decides to make one (i'm getting a heart arrest!) i wonder what would be the price tag for such biggie?

Whilst deviating from the op, i wonder what will Sal opt for instead? A Caly 3.5?
