Really like the looks of the Barong and was wondering if it has ever been or perhaps will be offered in S30V, 154CM, ZDP-189 or other "premium" steels?

Also would any Barong owners mind posting some photos and or personal observations on their knives? TIA

I have a Krein regrind Barong, and I love the knife. Since it is made in Japan S30V and 154CM are out, but ZDP-189 could be a possibility if demand ever justified a sprint run. I would love to see this knife in ZDP-189, but I don't think it would happen because I don't think that there is enough demand, and the knife is already quite pricy.

Ahh, I see. I'm new to Spyderco and didn't realize that the choice of steels varied based on place of manufacture.

Ed Schempp, the designer of the Barong, really likes VG-10 and the carbide structure associated with it. Ed, in my opinion, is quite an authority on steel, forging, damascus, knife design, and a few other cutlery related subjects. I understand he does pretty well at growing wheat on his farm, too. In any case, when he talks steel or knife design I go into "rapt pupil mode" and try to soak up some knowledge.

Also, as has been pointed out, Japanese steels will normally be used on the Spydercos made in Japan.

I really like the Barong and own a couple or few of them:D.

Here is a video where I do a bit of work with one and show some of the combative possibilities with the blade:
