Barrel knives?

What are they? I thought they were huge slipjoints, in a round pattern, with many blades. But I did a search on them, and I came up with something else entirely. BTW, this thread is inspired by Cargill's knife page, referenced in the Cripple Creek thread, just below. let's see one...

Based on what I have learned barrel knives are actually a Scandiavian designed folder. The name being based on the shape of the handle. An all-metal slipjoint style folder slipped in and out of a hollow barrel-shaped wooden handle. The knife could then be opened and slipped back inside the handle, giving a large puukko style handle on a small folding knife. I don't believe there are any currently in production. I have a picture somewhere I will try to scrounge up for you.

Hope this helps.

Pic sent to Dijos. Can send to anyone else if interested.

PWork, you might be right. This one is from Sweden.

Kindof a neat idea.

I have seen many of the barrel knives on eBay. I like the design. They always seem to seel for quite high prices. Even when they aren't in the best of shape.

Does anyone know if this style of knife is still manufactured?

I do not know of any that are being produced now, but I have seen some recent customs by Richard Rogers and if I am not mistaken Joel Chamblin. I love the design of these and hope to order one some day.
