All,

I've had good success asking for info on specific makers here so one more try...

What can people tell me of Barry Davis' work? I know that he is a maker of high end folders, and that he studied under Jim Schmidt. His knives seem to all retail over $2,000 (Nordic has 1 piece that is $5 under that, but maybe its due to it being simple DI).

I have always liked his work... I understand he's a bladesmith too and makes his own damascus.

Anyone here owns some of his work, or has placed order(s) with Barry?

Cheers,

Joss

I've never owned one, nor do I know very much about him but they are very nice and classy looking. I know that Paul at Knifelegends loves and carrys his work and may have more info on Barry.

Hey Joss
I always stop by and admire Barry's Work as he presents at the ECCKS , always sold out as doors open ..
His materials fit and finish are all investment quality ,his lock back and bail lock mechanisms work flawlessly..the knives scream gentleman's knife..
Ive not seen his knives heavily discounted on the secondary market..so they appear to hold value well..I believe he is part time with a strong following so I'd be willing to wager a hefty back-log.

Joss, I've owned 4 of Barry's knives in the past. Top self work and material's. Barry tends to make blades in the 3" range. I can't seem to get him to make me one longer than 4". You can't go wrong owning of of his knives. Hope that helps, MT

Funny, I just shot and edited this Barry Davis knife today. Joss, your ears must have been ringing. ;)

I find them very sturdy and solid, due to the damascus frames. Very similar to Kaj Embretsen in appearance. They always have all the bells and whistles that this type of folder enjoys. I enjoy the work.

Barry IS as smooth a guy as you will meet, and if you are at ECCKS don't forget to check out his son's chain-mail art that will be displayed at the table. The good craftsmanship is in the genes....

Well, I have been thinking about Mr. Davis' work for 5 or 10 years. Last week I finally decided to take a chance and I bought a pearl model from Nordic.

The page can be found here:

The picture doesn't even begin to capture the color of the pearl - it's a firework. The blade is small but apart from that the knife has all the bells and whistles - sapphire thumb stud, twizers and toothpick, gold bail, etc. I'm very happy.

Congrats Joss...indeed all the bells and whistles..Very Tasteful example!

Beautiful piece. Extraordinary elegance. Those little gadgets really keep the fun factor high! :)
