I sent off my small 21 last week to Barry H for a custom scale. He received it Saturday 4/3 and I just got it today 4/9. Amazing turnaround time!

You know we are all guilty of doing this...waiting for the postman to come:o

Nothing like using another small sebenza to open up another sebenza!

Inital thoughts:
*You can tell right off the bat that the G-10 scale saves ALOT of weight. The small 21 was not heavy by any means, but this will be a much added bonus since I already carry so much other stuff with me everyday (Ie Keys, flashlight, etc)

*I am in love with this texture. It definitely adds a much needed sense of security knowing that this will not slipp out of your hands.

*Barry's attention to detail is very apparent. He has recreated the original scale almost exactly.

*The blade is perfectly centered and the lockup is still very tight and solid.

*No blade play at all.

I will update this post with a more detailed review when I spend a bit more time with the new toy. :D

A big THANK YOU to Barry H for putting up with my random emails very late at night.

Regarding the weight, we can see that we save a lot. A normal small 21 weighs 3 OZ on the website. We are saving nearly .7 OZ

I like it!
Is there any sacrifice in structural integrity? I have contacted Barry and like his work, but am wondering if it feels less "sturdy," compaired to the full on titanium? I really like the idea of carbon fiber, and wish Silver Twill G10 was readily available.

Glad you like it, Evan V.

For the record, I have probably made over 150-Sebenza scales out of G-10 or carbon fiber. I have never, ever, have had one issue or return on any of my work:D

Ever had a chance to check out a Strider SnG or SMF?

Well, that's what I'm doing with a Sebenza:
One titanium locking handle, one blade and one phenolic handle.

It works with Strider, and it works with my work.

Next question..........:D

Thanks, I will be contacting you as soon as I get one. As of now, I only have inlay and graffic sebs. NO plain ones to tinker with. Any chance you have some extra titanium CR scales lying around? :) My buddy has a machine shop and would like to experement with them.

Sorry, nothing extra floating around my bench at this time.

You are most welcome! Glad you like it:)

And thanks to the rest of you and your comments!

And, in case any of you newer members here that aren't acquainted with my work, I recently reformatted my photobucket page and now have page dedicated to most of my Sebenza work.

Barry,

Since you mentioned Striders, I have a related question.

Can you make a Seb scale with and intergrated backspacer like on the SnG or SMF?

I've been fabricating carbon fiber stand-offs instead of using a one piece scale/backspacer. Done about a two or three dozen with no returns or lock up issues.

That sounds like a great idea.

Do the stand-offs close off the whole back of the handle - as in to stop keys or coins from getting in?

Do you have any pictures of these installed?

The weight reduction of these scales is amazing! Almost a full ounce on a 3oz knife.

No, they don't close off the area. If they did, it would be called a solid backspacer. Think Sebenza now. the stand-off simulate what the sebenza thru bolts do.

Go to my photobucket link and look around:D
