For the Barry Woods fans out there. I'm interested in a little of the history of the Barry Woods Mk. 1 folders. It was the first custom knife I was ever aware of and have an interest in one today. Some of my questions are: What is the blade steel? How many were made and where they all numbered? Did they all have writting on the blade? When did Colt pick up the design? What is a good price of one today? Is any more rare than others?

Thanks for you answers, I just don't know to much about these blades although I've liked them for years.

Thanks,
Scott

Barry Wood started working on the design in the early 60s and shipped the first pilot-production MK 1's in '68. The MK 1 model was discontinued in 1977.

He started working with Colt in 1970. Colt called it "Tuck-A-Way". The total production of Colt/MK 1 knives was over 33,000 knives.

According to an old catalog, they used only one blade steel--154CM.

As far as value...Paul Basch is the best source for that. You can call him at 479-631-0055. He doesn't like email.:D

Anyway, hope this helps.
Amy

I'm pretty sure all the Mk.1 and all the regular Mk.2 models (not the Mk.2 SPECIAL) were made with 440A blade steel.
