Having oogled over BarryH's custom scale work for some time now, I finally pulled the trigger and contacted him with the request for G10 black/sand scales to match my G10 black/sand VZ Grips for my Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm (the most accurate compact 9mm I've ever shot--highly recommended!).

Barry made me two scales for small regular Sebenza's that absolutely give the knives an entirely different feel. My small regular Seb's have double lugs, and while without them weigh in at 2.9oz, weigh in at an even 3oz. After installing the G10 scales, the knives weigh in at 2.4oz, which is noticeably lighter in hand.

Being lighter to me is a bonus, as my main priority was to increase grippiness, which the sculpted G10 does very nicely.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with Barry's work, which is outstanding. If you are considering custom scales for your Sebenza or other folders for that matter, I would start with Barry. He is a true craftsman. Many thanks, Barry.

More to come...

Those look great Professor, and I am really liking the EMP. I always wanted to try out a TRP, maybe someday.

Wow, the scales look great. I've admired his work....love his Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber stuff too.

Thanks, all.

I can't say enough good things about the EMP. It is becoming my "beware the man with one gun" gun, as I've found my Glocks to be too big for my hands. The EMP was built around the 9mm cartridge rather than being your typical 1911 chambered in 9mm. The grip is smaller all the way around, and the sheer heft of the little gun makes it extremely manageable in regard to recoil and flip. I feel like I'm regurgitating stuff said on the 1911 Forum about the little gun, but it's all true!

'Been oogling the TRP myself, atony. One with a full dustcover light rail would be right on time!

How many scales do I have to make you to trade for that EMP????????

I have big hands, and I find Glocks ungainly, too.

Thanks for the review, Scott.

Glad you like the scales:D

Very nice Professor. The video really shows off how nice the scale really is.

Put another 200 rounds through the EMP this weekend. Apparently it doesn't like MagTech or Aguila hollow points. Gonna stick with CorBon Powerballs and hardball target ammo for now.

Here's another shot. More to come of these and their CRK brothers and sisters in use as my photo and video skills evolve (I'm a little behind the times ;)).

I'm really liking the feel of the G10, and plan on sending another to Barry soon for a new look, and I'm thinking blaze orange or red/black G10 this time.

Great stuff!

Some fella on another forum suggested Speer Gold Dot HP's, and said they cycled fine through his EMP. I don't know. They're still HP's, and at least the Cor-Bon Powerballs have the polymer inserts that round-out the HP profile, giving it the profile of hardball ammo.

He knows his stuff, however, so I may try it. You do some shootin', Barry? I bet you could make some hellacious custom 1911 grips, amigo.

I used to own a 1911, sold it and now I'm down to a G21 SF. I made a couple of grips along the way. If I owned another 1911, I'm sure I would try it again. Money's too tight this year for another gun, maybe next year.
