BAS, AK and WWII

I saw Dan's analysis on shapes and striking angles, but I still don't see any major differences.
Use: be the one on my side for long walks while the 18" is staying in the camp/car/whatever.

Wich one would you pick for, the same size (15"), between those 3? And Why?

No I won't take them all (well, not yet).

As I said, if it's still there when I come back tonight, I won't be able to resist (if I get cash for Christmas)

I know I may not resist, that's why I ask first.

My preference is the little WWII. It's 1.5 in. longer than your 15" limit, but I like it better. Got more heft for chopping. The BAS is a little light for me, but that obviously makes it easier to tote. Coincidently, there's a WWII in today's DOTD, also.

You might also want to consider the BGRS, which is in the same size range, and a great chopper. I keep one of those in my truck for, umm, stuff.

Given that they are all multi-purpose, some are more advantageous in some applications. All three are all-arounders.

A WWII seems more tool-like than weapon, for example. I'm not a fan of those. Don't know if that helps, but the greatest need chooses the model. All do all, some do some better (aka woo-woo khukuri mysticisism :foot: ). Hold out for a 15" AK if SD is a considered need IMO. BAS is prettier. Dig a hole with the WWII. If it doesn't matter any of them will do.

It is not really for SD since I don't have a CWP :P

I really consider today's deal: 65$ for a non-villager non-blem BAS is very tempting.

Thx for the advice Jimmy.

I like all of them. You can't go wrong with any of them. I have a 15" villager model that is sort of AK sort of BAS. Heavier than a normal BAS, but doesn't have the fullers of the AK. It was my first khuk:)
The 16.5" WWII I have never gotten around to handling much. I do have an 18"er and it works great:)
I think a 15" BAS would make a fine toting khuk. Don't over look the siru of similar length. I have a great 14" villager siru that is no slouch when it comes to camp chores. It won't chop like an AK, but it will handle stuff up to 4 or 5" without a problem.

I have a 18" Ganga Ram for bigger tasks anyway :)

If I have money tonight, I get that BAS and get a kydex sheath done for it. Christmas present from me to me.

I hesitate between a AK and a BAS, but at this price :O

You have the big, bad 18 inch in camp/car/whatever, take the BAS for that long walk, you won't regret it.:)

At your side for long walks, while a serious 18" chopper stays in the car?

Get the BAS then. It's the lightest of the 3, so will ride easier on your hip. While it's got the least power of the three models you've described, it's prolly more than enough for your intended purpose.

If you wanted to go smaller yet, I know that Kismet is a big fan of a 12" AK, for pretty much what you've described. Chops outside of its weight and length class, yet won't pull your belt down. With a real chopping khuk in the truck or car, you'd be well set up.

you gotta link to that?

get that BAS. first, it's a historic staple model. second, that price is remarkable. seriously, stop foolin around and buy it. you're gonna kick yourself later if you don't.

i'm still regrettin the 9-13-06 dotd. that's right, three months and still feel it.

go. now. i'm not joking.

The AK would be my choice.

Since the BAS is offered at a great price today though you should probably jump on it.

I have a BAS and a WWII. The BAS covers most of my needs, but when I need to chop something a bit thicker, I go with the WWII.

Thanks to all

I got the BAS :D

You guys have a BAD influence on me (especially Jai), my wallet hates you.

Merry Christmas to all.

Funny fact: my parents refused to buy me a khuk for Christmas "We will never buy you a knife". But they got me a sashimi knife to make sushis.

Hm. I always thought my 16.5" WWII made an excellent fighting knife/tool.

I recently received a beautiful 15" AK. I wasn't actually certain at first which model it was, thinking it might be a sturdy BAS. I like it a great deal, and it would be hard to go wrong for anything other than as a dedicated heavy chopper. (It could do it, but a longer kuk would do it better.)

Since you already have an 18" (AK), the BAS should be a terrific choice for you.

I was talking to a police officer while going through the red tape to get some recent DOTD's into Taiwan, and he commented on the ironies of which knives which are restricted and those that aren't. He thought it was funny that daggers are restricted, but shshimi knives are not. He mentioned a recent case where someone got stabbed with a small one (up to the hilt) next to the collar bone and went to the hospital. In the ER, they saw a small wound and sewed it up. The guy died of internal (arterial) bleeding. Moral: sashimi knives don't just cut raw fish well.
