Hello! What is the difference between the WWII and the BAS models? One is shorter, sure. But say you had the smaller WWII and a BAS model, how do they compare?

Thanks :) Khukuris are great!

Welcome to the Cantina! Both these khuks are sure winners! I would put them in the same class, I own them both. I would say that the WWII is a little heavyer and is a more powerful blade when it comes to chopping. The BAS is a superb "do it all knife" and is a faveorite for many around these parts. If I had to pick one I would opt for the WWII because I like beefy blades and if I could have any I would take a 15-18 inch Ang Khola!

I agonized over which khuk to get for a couple months. I wanted my first to be something I would likely use over anything else in the most possible scenarios. I settled on a 15" AK and am EXTREMELY pleased with it. I think you will find that whatever khuk you get will be top quality. My AK just has that feel of power and strength to it. You know you can use it like crazy and it won't fall apart. Because of the weight distribution, balance, etc. it feels much lighter than the 1.5 lbs it is. I also like the looks of the AK. I am truly surprised that these blades don't go for three times the price.

Take your time and try to get what you want but remember you can always trade up or down if what you get doesn't fit your hand.

That's a great advantage to be able to trade up or down. My first AK was a 15.5" overall and I just obtained a second AK (it's 18.5" overall) There is a large difference in grip sizes. The smaller one is tight feeling. The larger one has a big thick grip. Sort of like the difference in my baseball bats when I used to play ball as a kid. They all have a different feel. The trade up/down option is great.

Ad, I had a couple 15" AKs that I ended up giving away than the two ( one black, one gray handled ) BAS's I've got packed away.

I know that the 15" AK is Bill's #1 seller, and the BAS was #2 the last I heard, but that was a while ago. I think the 16.5" WW2 was #3, but I don't know anymore. The 18" WW2 has probably passed the 16.5 into third by now.

To me, the 15"AK is a ravcn tressed beauty. The 16.5" WW2 is a blue-eyed blonde, and the 18" WW2 is a green eyed redhead. All three promise to be infinitely delicious. Then the BAS comes along and feels like kissing your sister.

So, Rusty, you're saying that kissing Ad's sister is a good thing, right? :D

I am having a problem now. Rusty's analogy is really messing up my mind. I have an active imagination. My BAS is my most used/favorite khuk. I have an older sister who I have a barely civil relationship with. Now every time I use my BAS I am going to picture kissing my sister. It is time to get a new favorite knife. Maybe one of those 18" WWIIs, I always did like redheads.

Unless you are short on space or limited by weight I would go with the WWII. It takes me about 26 blows to get through a 2x4 with the BAS, 17 with the 16.5" WWII, and only 10 with the 17.5" WWII. In the field the performance differece is usually even greater. With harder woods such as seasoned oak, the BAS will penetrate poorly but the 17.5" WWII bites deeply. With soft or decaying wood the performance difference is not as noticable.

Come to think of it, have Uncle Bill put somebody's sister up as an UBDOTD and we'll have half-a-dozen embarassed Great Whites trying to explain their bids to upset spouses.

... Uncle Bill put somebody's sister up as an UBDOTD ...
Rusty - I think I am the most elligible Khukuri knut to take care of her - as a Muslim I can always have 4 wives! So - Pakcik Bill - I guess I will be the 1st taker ... unless Spectre who had dream of three snakes is faster on his key board! ... of course ... for precaution I have to hide all my Khuks from my present wife!

Mohd, one is usually enough! You better be careful. Some of the kamis take 2, 3 or even four wives and it never seems to work very well. Look at poor Prakash!

Prakash is my sentimental favorite. ;)

No wonder he built such good handles on his khukuris. The man's sense of touch was very refined. :D
