So, as you can see, I've been on this forum a while but never posted. I recently sent Auntie an email about a BAS I purchased, and she asked that I post it here. Basically, it confirms things most of you seem to already know about these products.

Some background: I'm not really a 'collector' but somehow have acquired numerous knives. Mostly folders, Benchmade and Kershaw, but some Emersons and Swiss Amy. I have a few pukko style fixed blades. Somehow I got the khukri bug earlier this summer and stumbled into the HI forum.

Here's the email:
Just an update, the BAS arrived today.

I.Love.It.

It's my third khuk from you and amazing. A pine tree was cut down in my neighborhood a few days ago. I was knocking through 1-2 inch branches in one swipe. 4inch limbs in about a minute (and I'm still a novice khuk owner). My three year old enjoyed the karda for a minute too on a few twigs. It's a great fitting sheath (the best of the three) too. The kharda is sharp as well, which has been an issue before (so thank you).

I have a similar size khuk from a competitor. It's probably more a M43 competitor, 800gms, and about an inch longer than the BAS. Handles started shifting in 5 minutes, but the steel worked well. And way too tiring for me to use... I'm enjoying the blisters too.

Overall, best purchase yet from your company. Thank you.

If I can figure out pics I'll get one or two up. Now to find a good kydex sheath (my attempts are pitiful) and someone to fix those handle slabs that are sliding off.

Like your review. The BAS is the best light weight HI made. It's tough , fast, and has a great blade.

Welcome to the converted and convinced! Khukuri are wonderful tools. If you are still getting used to using them, work on the snap cut technique. It uses a semi-firm grip and allows the khuk's shape and mass to do the work. The BAS is a model in that sweet spot of size and weight, allowing it to too be a workhorse and not cause undue fatigue.

The slabs on the BAS is coming off? The BAS is usually a traditional handle with the kangaroo tail peened on the end, not with two slabs done Chiruwa style.

Kobra is nice but 21.5 inches and 20' ounces it won't be a chopper like the BAS.

It of course has it's own plus's in other area's.

I agree! I’ve used my BAS on a lot of varied in size and hardness, wood! It is light and fast and a real workhorse!!
For sure one of my favorites!!

The BAS was my very first user blade, and it was suggested by auntie. It is and still is my go to backpacking blade. Some prefer the WWII, M43, or various others, but I like the BAS, and I have been promoting it as an all around user ever sine I got and used it on the trail.

Mine is a Lok BAS 15" 17.5 oz, and it is beyond awesome.

I pair it with my Pen (12.25" 14 oz) and/or AK Bowie (12.25" 19 oz) knife and I'm set to go on any kind of camping trip.

Cul that BAS is one beautiful knife!

Well, I think I know which one I'm going to be getting when I can afford another khukuri.
It's my fourth purchased one, kind of wish it was my first... though without others to compare to, I suspect I wouldn't appreciate how good it truly is.

https://yellowhawkcustomkydex.com makes great ones. They are a little costly but great sheaths.
I was trying to quote this.

M Mdinana Thanks for sharing with us! Would love to see pictures. Normally I use a 16.5" WWII or 20" Sirupati. One of these days I'll need to check out a light weight BAS.

If you'd like some help tightening up the handle on your non-H.I. Khukri, feel free to email me. I may be able to give you some pointers. Can't promise anything, but I'm willing to give ideas.
