My BAS was looking a little lonely, so I just used it to whip up a batch of vegetable soup. It worked great, though I must say I like it better for chopping/chunking than for fine slicing. Khukuris definitely have a place in the kitchen. We've got about six inches of snow on the ground, and more on the way. The power has been threatening to go out all afternoon, so I may end up finishing the soup on top of the woodstove:).

Hmmm. May have to buy another BAS. The one I have currently has a permanent residence in the pickup. In case I need to peel an orange or something.

I think I need a nice 30" Kobra in case I run out of toothpicks...or to get to the last pickle in the jar.

:D

When it's the last one, I usually turn the jar upside down over the sink with the garbage disposal. Draining the pickle jar before tossing it helps to keep the trash bags from ripping their bottom open a foot before you reach the trash can.

YMMV
:p ;) :D

Like the 30" Kobra pickle stabber. Wouldn't have to get up from the table. Just hack through the refrigerator door and down through the thin metal lid on the jar and voila! Pickles for everyone!
Actually use khuks in the kitchen. Don't do the greatest job on tomatoes, but can slice them. Be prepared for a good patina to develop on the blade though.

Heck Rusty...I'm all man...I just leave the jar on top of the sink.

:p

You'd have to have a designated Kobra for pickle stabbing since the vinegar would etch the end ( wouldn't it? Having a brain fart -- yes that IS what that noise was)

AND you'd need two.

One for Dill & one for Sweet.

Two knives the Sarge make for my wife were so shiny that she thought they were stainless. After making a big stew and using the smaller of the two for all of the cutting but what little I helped her with. She laided the knife down and finished putting all of the goodies in the pot. Later she brought the knife to me and was almost to cry. What did I do to this beautiful knife. Moma you did nothing but use it. That is not stainless steel like you were using when Sarge sent you the knives. Wash it with a bit of soap and I'll polish it up for you. After this wash it as soon as you can and I won't have to polish it every time you use it.

Sarge make outstanding knives. I haven't had to sharpen either of them sinse he sent them.:)

Sarge's knifemaking is an inspiration. I'm in the middle (dam, I hope I'm halfway through) making a knife out of a planer blade. That steel is HARD!

maybe we should think of replacing karda and chakma with fork and spoon for a kitchen-khukuri (it is hard to drink the soup out of my AK`s fuller :D - Josh how did you do it with the non-fullered BAS?)
