Basic 11 compared to SAR8, BWM or CGFBM?

SO this is really a question for any at Blade. How does the Basic 11 compare to the SAR8, BWM or the CGFBM?

Really trying to get a feel for this knife and decide if I can justify moving on another blade to buy one.

Thanks for the feedback in advance.

All I know is that the Res C handles are by far the most comfortable. My DF LE is the most comfortable in hand. After time, I let go of my BWM and CGFBM. I love the Horton Camp 2 and the SHBM, but they lack the shock absorption the Res C offers. The ergos of the Horton are my favorite as well as that Platinum edge, but extended chopping and batoning favor some soft grips. I am looking forward to trying out the B11! Just MHO, sorry I cannot offer more. I am sure this all varies based on hand size, body size, and other variables I cannot account for. To each his or her own.

I wish I could have got a look at one but the Busse booth was a madhouse during early
bird entry at noon. The hogs were at least 6 to 8 people deep from one end of the trough to the other. Me and my son came back a couple more times but it was the same. I think we will just wait until the dust settles down a bit.... lol

Man, you have to throw some elbows and get in there!

I scored a CG Dogfather along with my B11's, and hefting one in each hand really reminds me of comparing an FFBM against an NMFBM hefted the same way.

Of course, these knives (DF/B11) are significantly thinner, lighter and faster than FFBM/NMFBM, but comparing the handling characteristics brings the same kinds of observations. The CGDF is like the FFBM in that it's thick and stocky, with a shorter "throw" in terms of swing radius. The B11 is more like the NMFBM in that the weight is distributed in a thinner, longer blade that develops more momentum/speed when you swing it. I like the B11 for the same reasons I like the NMFBM--longer blade = more momentum and "sweet spot" for full-house chopping chores. Also, I have to say the standard-edge B11 has a killer convex edge on it, at least mine do, which I think may have been overlooked by those who are drooling for an asymmetrical edge. I don't think anyone who gets the standard-edge B11 is going to be disappointed--certainly as good a razor convex edge as I've seen on any CG model, and very similar to the convexed side of the asym--just slightly shallower with a two-sided bevel instead of one-sided.

Obviously, the B11 is the largest Res-C handled slab of INFI ever; who could resist--and who in his right mind would want to?

Thanks for this, now I'm wondering is it worth me moving on a BM for it. I have a CGFBM, FFBM and NMFBM can't imagine moving one of them on for a B11. Now a BWM I would think the B11 beats that hands down?

Interesting question. I really like the comfort of the Res-C, and the B11 is lighter over-all than the BWM but with a thicker blade and more blade-heavy balance, so all those factors would suggest you are right in your assumption. BUT, I don't have a BWM with me to compare, and I have been very impressed with the feel of the BWM--very comfortable handle contouring for chopping, plus the BWM's greater weight comes partially from its handle slabs and full tang, but also partially from the wide blade--wider than a B11, and I'm not sure the B11 will penetrate as deeply as the BWM given that thickness differential. I'd have to try them side-by-side to make that determination--I bet Ankerson will enjoy comparing those two as well.

I think it will be an interesting block of videos.

I do hope the B11's are offered at some point other than just the ganzaa as it's a knife I'd like to experience. I tried the BWM and it wasn't for me. Felt too heavy for machete tasks and too flimsy/light for chopping compared to the BM's.

I agree seeing this blade going up against a few different BM's will be a great thread. I think now more than ever there really is a Busse for everyone and every task. This does not help my bank balance. :D

Looks like a SAR8 got put in a rack. Either that or a Tali that got stretched right out.

Will, is the DFCG heavier than the B11??

There again, I'm not sure--they feel very close. Kinda like the FFBM and NMFBM--similar in weight but very different balance. For prying/smashing, I'd say the thicker DF would excel, but for chopping I'd think the B11 with more momentum and the thinner blade would have better/deeper/easier penetration.

One other thing about this Basic--the tip is finer than on any of the old Basics--definitely some penetration potential in terms of thrusting/digging/piercing through resistant materials.

Good stuff Will... thanks!

Hey, glad if it was useful Kevin. You're welcome!

I tell ya' fellas, if you've never been to the Blade Show...go. This is where they make Christmas morning for adult males with Blade Addictive Disorder. It's like dying and sailing to heaven on an ocean of dream-quality knives. I've been to many gun/knife/collectible shows, and I'm always done within 2-3 hours, even the big shows out west in places like Denver where manly sensibilities still reign supreme. I've been here two days, on the floor 90% of the time, and I haven't even scratched the surface of what I'd like to take time to really study and contemplate. It's overwhelming in a "take me, waste me, I'm yours" sort of way.

Good stuff man:thumbup: Next year for me hopefully.

I am going to make it next year for sure. :)

I will likely do much more looking and Shooting photos and Video than buying though.

thanks for the pics, Drift Draft. B11 looks great. i'd really like to get a hold of one of those
