Hey guys. Does anyone know the "specs" on the earlier, smooth coat, Basic 3? I looked on BadMojo and just saw pics but no specs. Thanks.

O.K. I just got my answer:

Basic 3:
Blade Steel INFITM Modified
Blade Length 3"
Overall 8"
Weight 6.5 oz.
Thickness .25
Hardness 58-60 Rc
Handle Resiprene C

And from what I remember the modified INFI is still really tough right? Thanks.

In a word, "YES!!" In terms of human usage perception, you won't notice the difference between INFI and M-INFI. Anything destructive enough to require the difference in performance would have long past destroyed the user holding the knife.

My first Busse was a Basic 9. I took it camping and split all my firewood with it. I batoned some pretty big stuff and it just laughed at me. I was duly impressed and hooked.

I never really paid attention to the Basic line (my loss) as I was so hooked on micarta, G10, etc... I also did not realize the stoutness of the Basic 3. It seems like a nice, more affordable alternative to the HD for a sturdy EDC knife.

Recently I have noticed serrations popping up on Busses. Probably always there but I just started to notice. What are your guys thoughts on serrations on a small blade such as the Basic 3? I don't hunt (just humans ;) ) or skin so this will be for all utility purposes in the "urban" setting.

Thanks.

Note that it has the smaller of the two basic handle sizes.

I find that the basic 9 handle is perfect for my hands now, so I'm not sure what the basic 3 would feel like. My hands were smaller when I owned one...

I imagine the Basic 3 handle size is comparable to that of the Howling Rat. The Res-C versions.

I think it's smaller??? I never got a comparison shot when I had btoh of them, so I'm only going on my memory from 3 years ago. I could definitely be wrong.

Personally, I like the basic handles a lot more then the swamp rat handles because there less blocky, and because the 3 different textures, smooth on top - rough on the sides - corrogated at the index finger, makes the grip feel nicer. not necessarily more secure, just.... nice....
