Just got this Basic 5 in a trade (was withdrawn as he couldn't part with it :D ) and am in the process of cleaning it up.

After 3 applications of stripper, and some 800 grit sand paper...

Going to start on 1500 grit sandpaper today.
This may be the perfect Busse for me. Great blade length, awesome handle. Can't wait to start beating this bad boy!

So far, 1500 grit finish, gone over with a worn out piece of 1500...

Can't wait to make a sheath for it! :)

Thanks for the compliments, y'all. Might have to get some higher grit sand paper and really shine this bad boy up.

Try some rough-out leather and stropping compound of your choice to get the final shine on that bad boy.

If I am not mistaken, I think I was considering a trade for that one. I was on the fence (I have never held one of the res-c handles), and the owner withdrew the offer while I was debating (much too long to) decide.

Nice snag

Cool restore. A nice convex edge would finish that up nicely.

Here's a close relative of the basic 5 that's been Banned.

As soon as I saw it on the Trade forum, I was on it. Was not taking 'withdrawn' for an answer  :D

I will use the leather/compound on it tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!
I have polished a little more, but not enough to justify more pics.
I'll have Richardj work the edge a little for me this weekend. Ban does amazing work. That is one wicked Banned Mutt (?)

And thanks for the compliments again!

cjpgeyer, Nice work!
I have planned to make a satin finish Basic - there have been just way too many other priorities.

The B-5 is soooo overlooked when we all lust after the BA-IIIs and SJs. ...

I agree! The Basic 5 is a very handy size, and I think the Basic line was underrated - I like them all! A Basic 9 was my first Busse late in 2001 (there have been a couple more since then ;):D ).
