"Basic" leather care

I will be receiving a Basic 7 soon, and it will be accompanied with the "new" leather sheath. What should one do to prepare it for use in a humid, sometimes wet, environment. I really don't want to invest in a different sheath, so I just need ideas for the leather one.

On that same note, assuming that the Basic 7 would work in the SH-E condura sheath, would anyone have one they no longer need that they could part with for a paltry sum??

thanks,

Snow Seal works great on leather gear. Some types of thread do not hold up well to bees' wax, you should consult with the manufacturer in that regard. A Kydex sheath from Normark woudl be a "no-brainer" for moist locales.

I'm not sure of its exact location, but I do remember recently seeing a post in the Knife Exchnage that was trying to sell a Busse Cordura Sheath. I think it was a SH2 cordura sheath at that. I know that's pretty vague, but it's probably worth a search. I don't think the sheath was sold when I saw the post, either. Well, good luck.

Sorry if I'm no help!

Andrew,
Thanks for the info. I found the post and emailed him, gonna see if he still has it.

So what can I do to the leather sheath that will help get the most life out of it??
Ideas for treatments, oils, etc.? I just want to give it a fair chance at survival

Anyone else have an extra SH cordura sheath? I'm sure at least some of you have one left over after picking up something more classy

:
Slag you don't want to put anything on the sheath that will make it to soft as that will eventually cause it to be misshapened and you don't want that.
I have had good luck with the sno-seal.
I beliee the one I have is made by Coleman and I got it at Wal-mart in the shoe dept.
Warm the leather well with a hair dryer 1st and then apply it.
HTH.

I have used Sno Seal for years. Have always been satisfied with the results. You do need the hair dryer to get it soaked into the leather.
