I own a Benchmade 707 Sequel plain edge and am searching around for a basic way to sharpen it. I do not use my knife heavily, so it does not need frequent sharpening. Would something like this diamond stone be a good choice? http://tinyurl.com/dmtdiamond
Feel free to recommend something entirely different, but because of the infrequent use it will receive I don't wish to spend much more than $20. At the same time I want to be sure to choose a sharpener that will treat my blade well.

Welcome to BF!

For a first-time poster here on BF, I'd say you made a pretty good choice there. I'm sure others will chime in too, but the DMT products have a pretty good rep around here. That stone looks like it would serve you well for the use you described. And if you use it wisely (with light pressure, as is good sharpening practice), it should last a good, long time.

By the way, I noticed when looking at the Amazon link you referred to, the 'review' posted within Amazon's description seemed a little odd to me. Specifically, this part:

"If you're looking for a mirror finished edge, then you will love this water stone."

This stone isn't a waterstone, and I don't think it'll produce a mirror finish. That being said, it's still a very good product.

That is a good one! If you choose to buy more 'stuff' down the road, it will be easy to get things that will work well with that stone, also.
