Basic vs. Gold Membership?

Under the Paid Subscriptions tab, Gold Membership outlines the number of PMs, etc. that one gets. However, Basic Membership's description is ... well ... basic. Things are described as "limited."

Can someone please tell me the actual differences between the two? I'm not looking to sell anything anytime soon, so that's not an issue. But I would like to buy, PM, and maybe have an avatar and sig line (those are less important though).

Basic gets you 5 PMs and allows you to trade. Gold lets you sell.

You can buy as a Registered User, and any paid subscription gets you an avatar and signature.
