Bass Pro 922 Skinner Question

I acquired this nice Elk handled Redhead Skinner from another forum member awhile ago. As I recall it was the display model and they couldn't find the box & sheath when he purchased it, so it came to me without a sheath. I found a 922 sheath recently on eBay but unfortunately, the knife guard won't fit past the rivet area. Now for my question. I am trying to decide if the sheath is abberently too small or does my knife have a slightly larger than normal guard. My knife measures 1.561" from spine to tip of guard. Does anyone else here on the forum have a knife they could measure for me to compare? Thanks. /Roger

I have one roger.

Mine is 1-9/16" and fits great in the sheath it came with and mine is nib.

Here is a few pictures. Hope this helps.

The guard just barely misses the rivet but it does slide in nicely.

Thanks. 1-9/16" is the same size as my guard so it must be the sheath. My sheath is not numbered on the rear, is yours? The sheath I received looks like pictures I have seen. Would like to see your picture. Looking at mine closely, there is a filler piece of leather sewn into the seam for extra thickness. I think that extra filler leather strip is a bit too wide protruding into the sheath throat as that is what the guard tip hits against.

There is no number on the back of the sheath. Let me know if you need anything else.

Not to get off topic but did these sell in different steel blades? I see that the one in the pictures posted is 154-CM. The one's currently being sold at Bass Pro are Sandvik 12C27. And if I recall I swear I had seen one about a year ago in S30V.

Mine is coming in right at 1.56. The sheath has plenty of in and out room, but it has seen a little use and is not new/stiff by any means. Not stag but I burned a trout taking a dragon fly on the handle which is kinda cool:yawn::yawn: Blade Steel:rolleyes: guessing 420, like yesterday, no markings on mine for steel type:yawn::yawn: Picture time,

I like your trout handle. Looks like the correct sheath for mine would have been the basket weave. The 922 came in 3 different handles, Elk, G-10, and Dymondwood and is a Bass Pro exclusive design. I don't think the G-10 version is current.

Roger, can you give us a photo like the third one James posted?

Thank you

JB

Here you go. The guard hits that extra piece of leather sewn into the seam. It looks to be much wider than the one in James's sheath.

Roger,

That sucks, I'd contact the seller and show them this photo, I see these are still for sale on the big auction site, maybe the seller can switch out that sheath if they have more of them.

With the shape of this sheath, that center spacer strip will most likely be blocking the hilt all the way into the sheath. Take a flashlight and look to make sure the center strip is not just wide at the end. If it is only wide at the end you could cut the leather with a small pair of dikes or a large pair of cuticle cutters.

You'll need to trim the leather strip a bit in the sheath because it's hitting the guard, this is what I had to do with mine after I bought it brand new at bass pro shops.mine is the elk stag with high polished mirror blade of 12c27 m.

At the time I bought it ,I thought it was 154cm.as I had read before the stag was 154cm and the walnut model was 420hc.It was over$200 canadian and I haven't used it yet,so here is hoping it is on the same page as s30v when it's time to use it on big skinning jobs lol
