Hi All,

Like a few of you I got some BPS bucks to spend. We have a new BP about 70 miles from here so I got my son to make the road trip with me (he had never been in a store like this). I have been wanting a bone 110 or 119 so off to the BPS we went. My son was very impressed with the size of the BPS and all of the cool stuff like a 40' waterfall, very large fish tank, trout stream filled with 10 lbs browns/rainbows, and full size/head mounts everywhere.

I went to the knife counter looked into the counter display...no bone 119:eek:. They had one on display last time I was there a month ago. I asked the old guy behind the counter:rolleyes: he has no idea what I'm talking about. I see the 105 and the 102 bones...so he said what's the number on that one, I'll find it????. I said, "I want the 119 or the 110 not the other ones".

Ok he finds two of the 119 bones after about 15 minutes of fumbling in a 2'X3' drawer:mad:. The first one I open is all white almost no speckles. But, has a large crack all the way down the top of the handle. I open the other one it has very nice coloration. But, it also has many small cracks at the ends of the handle on all sides and one large crack on the top of the handle that goes about 1/4 of the length. I'm not sure if these will be a problem or not in time. We will see because I bought it.

Now I ask the guy if he can find the 110 bone. Another 15-20 minutes he said to me I don't know if we ever had one....:grumpy: I spot one in the wall display right above his head. The glare on the glass display made it almost impossible to see (I make not of this if I can ever make it to a knife show to display). He gets a step stool gets it down and hands it to me and said this must be the only one we have. Then he said "you can buy this one; I'll find the box". 20 more minutes of him fumbling around a few more drawers and he said sorry I can't sell this without the box (I would not have bought that one anyway because it was all tarnished and the brass was scratched).

I just wonder if any store trains their people anymore???? I guess the area could just be trashed due to the current season.

Any way here are some photo's of the BP 119 with cracked handle...what do you guys think? Will this become a bigger problem in time? Joe H, CJ what are your thoughts? This is one fantastic looking 119!

Great looking knife. The polished blade looks great. I really like the finger grooves on the handle. I hope someone lets us know about the "bone cracks". I guess with them you know they are real.

JB, it's a nice looking 119 but I don't care to much for the cracks... I don't think I would buy it like that... But that's just me... It still looks Great!!!!

BPS needs to seriously redo their knife display and cabinets. They have it 4 feet behind the counter and angled slightly back at my store and the bottom row of knives is eye level. The top row is 4 feet over your head. The glass picks up the glare from the ceiling lights.
I always check their Buck inventory and the sales folks don't know a Buck from a KOA model. Reminds me of current day HD .
I don't think you'll have an issue with the crack. It may not run all the way thru. Even if it does, it doesn't look like it runs the length of the handle.
Nice blade you picked up!

...I asked the old guy behind the counter:rolleyes: he has no idea what I'm talking about...

Yep, that's pretty much the Gander Mountain crew,too...except at Gander, they're trained to be annoyed that you bothered them and they treat you like crap...

Nice knife I really like the white bone handles, the only draw back on them is allot of them crack.... They look better in the black sheath.....

I had a completely different experience with the BPS in my area, it was a new store and the guy behind the counter was great. He told me that BPS had actually sent him to Springfield to meet with representatives of a lot of large knife companies on what was offered and the different types of steel and such that was used. He said it would be a yearly thing. I don't know he may have been the head of the cutlery department? He also could put a very nice edge on a knife also. The store is in Jeffersonville Indiana.
