The mailman was kind to me yesterday and delivered my Bass Pro Alpha Dorado. To say that I am pleased is the understatement of the year. What a great little knife! The centering and lockup are perfect, as well as the fit and finish. The opening action is a bit snug, but will wear in like my other 'Rosy' Dorado.

The most obvious difference to a regular 271 is the coating on the blade and frame. I have no idea what it is, but it reminds me of gun bluing only it takes on the color of an Alaska Black Diamond. I like it a lot.

A less obvious difference is that the blade steel is CPM154, which is supposed to be an upgrade to 154CM - We shall see. I can attest to the fact that the blade is shaving sharp, as I nicked the knuckle on my thumb without even knowing it. The scales are a satin finished Rosewood and are very nice indeed. The sheath is of the usual Buck top quality brown leather and actually smells like leather is supposed to.

I decided to get this knife instead of (or before) a Cabela's AG 110 and after seeing that 'bluing', I will probably pick up a Bass Pro CPM154 110 next. I just love that finish.

Just a note for Canadians that may want to deal with Bass Pro. The Bass Pro shopping experience was a very positive one. The prices are all in US dollars, but the products are shipped through a Canadian distributer, so no Customs hassle and you only pay GST. Ontario may have to pay PST as well, I am not sure.

Anyhoo, a great knife from a great company and two thumbs (one nicked) up to both.:thumbup:

I picked one of these up at Bass Pro the other day. I thought the darker color and the scales looked great together and couldn't resist. Very nice knife. And you're right - the leather sheath smells great!

Yup, it almost hints of a small 'tactical' folder with the smokey chrome finish. And as for leather, I think I will have to find some leather pillow covers. :p

Nice knife A.P F....are you saying you ordered it online without problems?I know i've tried lots of times and always got told no knives to Canada,so my friend ends up getting them for me and i get them mailed to me that way.

Yup, no problems at all with Bass Pro. Probably the fact that they have a store in Ontario has something to do with it. A fast and painless shopping experience.

Very nice APF. I've seen these in the catalog but didn't realize the frame was also anodized. Very cool looking.

Thanks, Messer. Yes, the frame is the same shade of 'Smokey Chrome' as the blade. It comes off as an attractive package, IMO.
