Taught my little bro a few days back how to use a bic lighter, he is fascinated by fire it seems.
Anyway, I went to grab something to eat from the kitchen and he goes into my room. As I enter my room, I see him with my delica wave in one hand, and a bic in the other hand, with the flaem ontop of the steel blade.
I guess he wanted to see if it could melt or something. Anyway, I'm frustrated he's playing with fire, and curious if I should be worried about my knife (has it softened?) I asked him and he said he only did it for about 5-10 seconds.

The tempering temperature for stainless is pretty high. I would mostly worry about the edge and the point (where the metal is very thin). If the edge doesn't wear out fast you don't have a problem. If it does wear fast, you can probably fix the problem with a heavy duty sharpening.

Bics I believe are 1200-300 celsius.
What I saw him doing is lighting the middle of the blade with the blade completely down on the lighter (where the blue part of the flame is.) Edge of the blade and point looks fine, seems like he was lighting closer to the non cutting side of the blade.
My blades dull anyway, been using it too much, friend will sharpen it.

First off, kick his as....uh, I mean chastise him smartly and firmly for a. trying to damage your property and b. doing it in the house with fire.

Then c. take the resposibility of being stupid by showing him such a neat thing and kick your own ass, then d. finish by showing/helping him with his new "toy" the problems and responsibilities that go with it.

Oh, if my Dad ever saw what I did with that neat trick of making match rockets he showed my brother and me, I'd still be grounded at 43.

Yes, first and foremost, a big bro beat down is in order! And depending on how long he had the flame under there, it may be ruined.

Funny, how there is a more concern with a $50 knife than the life of your brother, house and other property.

I talked to my brother. I'm not going to beat him up. I showed him the burn I got when I was playing with a jet lighter, and I told him about how much it hurt. I think he gets the idea, I haven't seen him even pick up one of my lighters since.
I'm not sure about the knife. I know mine has needed a good sharpening for a while as I've been using it a lot. It's quite dull now, but I don't think that was because of the flame. He told me it was there for like 5 seconds.

Dude, you taught him how to use a lighter??? And now you're pissed at him for using it??? How old is your little brother that you had to show him how to use a lighter?

Is the steel discolored at all? It would probably be a brownish or bluish color. As I remember stainless doesn't discolor with heat as easily as carbon steel. If the steel is discolored it is defiantly possible that the temper has been effected.

Nope, not at all.

unless you're seeing some blue/green/straw discoloration on the blade I wouldn't worry about it.

wash the blade,if burn marks are still there it is probably distempered and if you sharpen it enough it will remove the distempered steel effectively. i have burned stainless knives on sharpening wheels and thats what i did and it took care of the problem.
