I just approved the proof from Coop on this Presentation Grade Bastion Dagger. These two daggers will be featured in Knives Illustrated Nov/Dec timeframe. I'm also including the combat version picture that Jim took awhile back. Nice work Jim! I hope you like them.

V/R,

12" OAL
7" Blade
Convex tip
416 stainless furniture
Presentation Grade: CPM-154/mirror finish/Desert Ironwood Burl/black liners
Combat Grade: CPM-D2/satin finish/Horse Stall Mat scales

Hi Tim,

I was suitably impressed with the utilitarian dagger in the bottom photo. The combination of materials and lethal design speaks forcefully!

The ironwood dagger is all that, and a large satisfying touch of class.

Good luck with both of these and the inclusion in Knives Ilustrated!

(Thank you for allowing me to present them visually.)

Sorry, but they're both sold. Thanks for your interest.

These look really fantastic, I'm especially fond of the ironwood one. What is the purpose of a convex tip instead of just carrying out the edge grind to the tip?

Good question. By nature of the design, the dagger is frail at the tip - during WW2, the soldiers used to break the tips off prying open cans of food, etc, plus the narrow tip would stick in bone, making withdrawal difficult. They used to grind the tips off and sharpen the end of the removed point. Also, the Samurai used to carry a short belt knife for in-close fighting. The tip was convexed to aid penetration through armor.

Finally, it looks cool as all heck. :D
