I'm hearing a SJTAC is calling my name...
and I'm thinking to sell my BATAC- but that was the blade what gave me the "first cut"- of INFI, and it just feels right (as every Busse in a way) in the hand...could you just tell me your experiences comparing those two blades?
you, who actually use them.

Thanks, Peter

(and that comp finished HR just makes me sick...)

you really need both! And don't forget about a Battle mistress of some sort... you need one of those too. Oh, and a EDC knife or two... maybe a GW or a AD... the meaners are great. Ah... and the HR, that one is a must also. See what you have gotten yourself into now! Welcome to the club... Sit and have some cold refreshing Kool-Aid. ;)

Yeah, you need both.

Anyway, I have a Badger with magnum handles, and it makes the package feel a bit clunkier than the SJTAC. The Jack balances better in the hand, thought it's not quiet as much of a tank.

I don't see much reason to have one of each unless it is just to own them (a perfectly valid reason, BTW). The functionality of these two models completely overlaps the other in a way that, for example, an AD or FBM wouldn't. If you are happy with the BATAC and what it does and are looking for a different task worker, look elsewhere.

The SJT at the top is only a smidgen longer than the BATAC below it.

My first Busse was a Mud Razor. My second and third were an SJTac and a Mini EU-17.

After using the Mud Razor a bit, the SJTac didn't seem like as much knife and the handle never felt "right". The Mini EU-17 just feels awesome in my hand but it can't do the things a Mud Razor can. I still have the Mud Razor and the Mini EU-17, the SJTac is long gone.

If you could get an SJTac at retail price (like an embrace the suck), it wouldn't be a bad one to get, but with competition grade Hell Razors coming out, I wouldn't pay the secondary market price for an SJTac if I could get the Hell Razor for less.

So, wait for the 'ganzaa and see if you can get a Busse at retail.

Lastly, take a look at the SARsquatch, it's bigger but I think it's going to be a classic.

Yeah, the Sarsquatch...

I dig the non-tactical, somehow "goodwillie" (is there such a word, at all?!)- appearance of it.
I just received a skinny, and waiting for my LE (ASHes, that it is...), and yes, I have a GW and a SAR5 - but it never ends, I feel.
This whole proxy-thingie makes me nervous...anyone?! :-)

My take:

BATAC: Utilitarian
SJTAC: Wicked

They both can handle the same jobs interchangeably as previously mentioned, but in hand the SJTac feels more like a fighting knife, where the BATac feels like a user, a camp knife or utility knife.

Have you ever done a 'ganzaa before?

There is no proxy involved, it's done with email.

I don't know how much "good will" the SARscuatch will generate. The size of it will probably intimidate.

Both will cover most of your needs short of chopping. The SJT is a little easier to baton because of the extra length. The BATAC is a tad more compact. For me, these blades fit the same niche. The CG BATAC is one of my favorites. Not much I can't do with it. But the SJT is sweet two. Drink on it and it'll come to you. ;)

never did. never succeed not to fall asleep. hoping to do it now.
I misunderstood than the availability of the S'squatch. I thought it will be just at the Blade.
thanks, H'wash.

thanks, for the replies, oinkers. really.

I totally agree with cstorr2004. Both blades feel great in my hand. But the Batac feels more sturdy than SJT. It has a bit thicker/stronger tip - but SJT tip is mighty strong. I never weighted them, but to me both knives feel like they have the same weight, and with batac being shorter - probably this gives this knife the feeling of sturdiness. Both are great users. SJT is just more wicked - like cstorr2004 put it.

I had a SJTac and sold it, I didn't like how skinny it was. I have a BATAC LE and it's just the right thickness for a blade that size!

I have a Heavy Ordnance SJT, my primary combat blade in Iraq. Fortunately I never had to use it, but it was my first choice out of all my Busse and CRK collection. It may be the finest blade Jerry has ever designed. I can't speak about the regular SJT, but I figure that the only material difference is that it is lighter. These knives bend before breaking, and since you'd never be able to physically bend it to the breaking point without significant mechanical help the lack of stock thickness is really no disadvantage. That leaves comfort in the hand, and perhaps overall weight as deciding factors. I find the thicker HOSJT perfect for my hand, you may experience otherwise. I also own two BATACs, but went with the 6.5" blade SJT for combat. But for general purpose I doubt the BATAC really gives up anything to the SJT. In fact, for a general purpose knife it is often easier to work with a shorter blade. This is one reason I once sold a CRK "Green Beret" and used that money to buy a CRK "Neil Roberts Warrior", essentially the same knife but with a shorter blade.

As far as selling your first Busse... my first Busse was a BA III, and I'd sell my left kidney first.

As far as what is a better knife, BATAC or SJT, my answer is, "Yes".
