BATAC gets a beating

took my batac out for some throwing. i don't have a good place for throwing anymore, and the knife was frequently impacting gravel and granite if it bounced far enough off the tree.
this is a hard knife to throw. i always have trouble with it. felt like i was learning how to throw it all over again. it has been a while since i last threw it, but i'm also not very good at it. anybody have any suggestions for throwing the BATAC?

here's some crappy pics of the edge. it was convexed by me to an excellent edge. probably the best job i've ever done on any of my knives with just sandpaper. after all the beating on granite and gravel, it's got quite a few little dents, scratches and dings. i even picked a few little partially torn pieces of metal off the edge.
in a fit of insanity partly inspired by uncle jarvis, i proceeded to chop at a large rock (not a cinder block) about 10 light hits. this dulled the edge quite a bit more and faster but nothing worse than impacting the gravel. the worst of the dings were about half a millimeter deep. it'll probably take me about 2 hours total to fix up the edge.

i just noticed some chips and cuts in the g10. the edges are kind of sharp and i'll have to sand those down. another disadvantage to g10 besides the weight making it a little more handle heavy.

Way to go! Im impressed with your brutality, may I ask what method you plan to use for getting all the dings out?

 WOW... Looks like you win today's ExcaliBATAC Award!!!

Good on you Bro! Sounds like you know the magic to getting a mangled INFI edge back to sharp.

What's with you Mericans takin' in millimeters? :D
Good job beating the BA. I was seriously considering throwing mine but felt the weight distribution would not be ideal so I never got around to it.
Now the Hell Razor felt like it was throwing itself, almost every throw a winner. It's just that I was trying the BA as a user and the occasional throwing is what I like to do to users. May have to rethink that user plan.
Wonder how the ASH1's throw?

i totally would be throwing my HR, but i didn't want to beat the crap out of the edge . . . . i love the BATAC, but not nearly as much as the HR. i know what you mean about it throwing itself. it's the best knife i've ever thrown. getting used to the BATAC is hard (probably not so hard for someone who knows more about what they're doing), but doable.
i remember tyrkon did really well throwing the ASH-1. i had little to no luck with it :(

In the picks of the blade/edge it looks as through the BA is dif tempered. Is this correct? BTW, when you are done beating it feel free to throw it my way (in the mail...).

I've thrown a CG Mistress and a Dogfather before with relative success but I just handled a few of my BATACs and I must say, they are not balanced too well for throwing. The BATAC LE or a CG with standard Micarta feel much better for throwing than the G-10 ones.

Man, I just saw where you were batoning a BAD with a HR...now your beating a rock with a BATAC:eek:

I couldn't do it....but I like it:D:thumbup:
