I have two BATACs; one LE and one Combat grade, for lack of a better word. What's the difference between a magnum and a standard handle? I'm ordering a Kydex sheath, and it's one of the options before ordering...

Any input?

man, on a BATAC it is difficult to tell. I had a batac that I purchased and was told they were mags... but not like other Busse mags. On most Busse's the mags have a palm swell, thicker in the middle than on the front or end of the grips. They are contoured. Apparently the Batac mags are just thicker throughout without the swell.

I know it is a pain, but you may want to ship your knife to the maker for a perfect fit. I make my own kydex sheaths and I can tell you with absolute certainty that if you want an exact fit you should have the kydex around your knife.

Good luck!

more importantly, the blade on the le is thicker than the cg.

the mags on the batacs were not much thicker than the regs, but for kydex it would be important to know for proper fit. with leather, the scales won't be as important as blade thickness.

Yes, the LE is noticably thicker; it mikes out to .267" on white metal at the ricasso, .261" at the pommel. The CG is .197", including a layer of paint on both surfaces, and it tapers to .193" at the skull crusher where it meets the handle.

sorry, that was meant as a statement, not a question.

i think okuden has both for templates. david brown probably does as well.

Ken, explained that to me just today, here is what he wrote

"If your BATAC has the Black/Tan G-10 handles, then they are Magnum handles. For the BATAC, or any knife that uses the TAC handles, Magnum simply means that the handles are thicker. But, for the larger knives, Magnum means more contouring. The thickness between the tube fasteners is narrow, and wider at them."
