Can someone briefly explain the main differences between the two blades? It's hard to tell from pics.

Other than what you can see in the pictures, the BATAC is a thin blade...3/16'' and the ASH-1 ia around 5/16'' thick....it's considerably thicker and is better as a chopper....the BATAC is more of a general purpose blade....the ASH can still slice and dice mind you.....it really comes down to personal preferance between the two....

Here are some comparison pics of my BATAC SE (fatter than the CG BATAC) and my CG AHS1.

As you can see, the ASH is fatter than the BATAC SE so there is even more of a difference from the CG BATAC.

I pretty much agree with Pbusby but I prefer the extra length and width of the ASH1 for an all-arounder. Probably comes down to personal preference.

I agree, the ASH1 seems closer in size to the Hell Razor than it does to the BATAC.

Given that the price of BATACs are about the same price as an equivalent ASH1, which is partly due to the fact that the BATAC is not be produced right now, getting the ASH1 seems to be a no-brainer.

I didn't care for the BATAC, due to it being too much handle with not enough blade. So I sold it and absolutely love my ASH-1.

SLIDESHOW showing Camp Tramp,HellRazor and ASH-1.

I have also had a BATAC...It is MUCH smaller and lighter....

An ASH-1 is like a brick with an edge....VERY HEAVY..

Depends on what you do with a knife.

You will get tired FASTER using the ASH-1--but you will never break it.

Best advice--get both---re-sell the one you like least.

The ASH-1 has a much more comfortable handle than the BATAC, IMO. My first ASH-1 just came in this morning, and I am blown away by how awesome it is. I have 2 more on order, but I'm seriously tempted to order another, because they are amazing.

I really like my BATACLE, but if I could only have one, I'd take the ASH-1, no contest. Even though it's much bigger and heavier, it has a more elegant, purposeful design. A true classic! Anyone who knows about Busse and doesn't order one of these before they come down is a fool!

I haven't seen that many reports of broken BATACs...

That is because it would be pretty difficult to break a 3/16" thick piece of INFI :D

Seriously though, 3/16 is plenty thick and strong on a knife that size. And the ASH1? Well that thing is just a tank. In my opinion, probably the strongest and least likely to break Busse production knife.

Here is some weight comparison for you guys to ponder.

ASH1 1lb 4.9oz
BATACLE 1lb 2oz
BATAC standard 12.4oz

I'd like to see more anorexic INFI. It'd be neat to see how a 1/8" thick ASH1 would perform.

haha well i guess I should have mentioned that I already have an ASH-1 on the way.. I've just been eyeing a BATAC that someone is offering as well, just wanted to see how they stack up to each other.

Same here  I have a Anorexic BIBB that is close to 1/8" thick. It has a 7" blade and is half the weight of a ASH1. Chops 2X4s all day long and also makes for a superb kitchen knife :D

Never held one--I have heard they feel great!!!

The BIBB was a very small run from the ganzas. I don't think there were more than 20-30 of them made. They are basically modified ZTSHs with EU handles. Mine is heavily modified and thinned down. That is why I call it anorexic.

Here is mine next to a ASH1 and posing with a meaner duty.

If it helps, I ordered my ASH1 on 2/6 and got it today. I ordered a CG. It is a brute. Much more knife than the BATAC. I really like my BATAC so don't take that as a negative. The ASH1 is heavy, very heavy. It's thick and as stated really a brute of a 6 1/2" knife. That only goes to reason with it being about a 3rd of an inch thick.
It would be a bit heavy for carry on a backpacking trip but it is quite a chunk o infi if you are into really heavy duty knives. The thinner LE may indeed be the do it all knife. It is probably large enough to be a fair chopper but not too large to be the all around. CG is too thick for my perfect all around tastes but I understand why they like it so much. Good quality steel as usual!!!
