I saw Batman Begins yesterday, and it is the best Batman of the bunch. I know thats not saying much, but I saw Batman starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson back in 89 when I was ten years old, and loved it. The other three are terrible and can be forgotten. I used to be a big comics fan, even pondering a career of some type in the comics industry. My favorite superhero was and still is Batman, mainly because he is a regular guy, even though he is a billionaire, who, in a world of superheroes and supervillains, is probably the best at what he does. He's also nuts, and has a hard time riding the line between good and evil, it's cool knowing that he could turn bad at any moment.

Okay, the actors and actresses. Christian Bale was believable as Bruce Wayne and Batman. Michael Caine had some witty remarks, and carried the story in some spots. Morgan Freeman was really window dressing, but he is Morgan Freeman, so he really made what he had to work with shine. Rutger Hauer pulled off the skeevy executive, but wasn't anything to write home about. Katie Holmes isn't bad looking, was okay at her role, but it felt like she was making a paycheck for this movie. I'm a big Gary Oldman fan, I liked his turn as a nutjob detective in the Professional, a nutjob billionaire in the Fifth Element (noticing a pattern?). His turn as Gordon (not yet Commissioner) was played down, a little subdued, but he pulled off the character.

Oh yeah, Liam Neeson. I'll save the best for last. He played a teacher once in Star Wars. Now he plays a teacher again. This time, he teaches his student by giving him a beatin', really a teacher from the school of hard knocks. I think that the combination of him and Bale made the movie shine.

SPOILER WARNING FOR YOU NINNIES :p :p :p ;) :D

Not much on spoilers, but just wanted to throw that in...

From Bruce learning how to control his anger and channel it into "productivity", being trained by ninjas (not mall ninjas), to using his assets to create his Batman gear, persona etc, the movie is very entertaining. There are parts that drag on, but only because you know a big fight scene is coming.

After the big climax at the end, they throw a hint that there might be a sequel, a neat little ploy. I think you knife nuts will enjoy this movie as there is lots of sword play and neat gadgets.

Oh yeah, while the Batmobile is ugly as sin, it is pretty damn cool. It is actually real, they built five of them for this movie, and it looks very fun to drive  .

I've not seen it but I was encouraged by a review on Radio 1 (BBC) this morning.
The guy was saying that this was more a film for fans of the Batman character
as portrayed in the comics/graphic novels than the "play it for laughs" high camp of the earlier films which glossed over many of the more noir/sinister aspects of the character.
Can't wait to see it.

I loved the original with Keaton and think this is just as good, maybe even a tad tiny little bit better. At least on equal footing. What I want to know is what kind of engine is in that Batmobile! Just the sound of it was music to my ears, man what an exhaust note. Anyone have any idea on the specs, or what engine they used to provide the sound effects? Inquiring minds (and ears) want to know.

Saw it last night and it ROCKS!

I loved the first one, hated all the rest untuil now!

I have serious reservations about Christian Bale but he proved me wrong big time. and the little thing at the end with Gordon was mega cool!

Well worth seeing.

Great movie....highly recommended as a weekend viewing...don't wait for the DVD
