Batoning, ne plus ultra

So you're telling me that you have been lurking for over two years and when you finally decide to post all you put is "good ole 1095!"

I liked the video a lot, shows how to baton without breaking the knife and bank. With that beaver like technique you could probably baton a folder around that tree

This should be put in the Wilderness and Survival Skills subforum so the crowd who would appreciate this more can, well, appreciate it :p

i almost started crying i was laughing so hard when i saw this

There's more than one way to skin a cat! I saw a friend of my dad's cut down a tree a little bit bigger than that one time with a flat-head screwdriver, because he didn't have his knife on him, and he was trying to prove a point. :D It took him a lot longer though. We watched and laughed at him for about a half hour while he sweated and cussed.

That same tree, two or three whacks with a Battle Mistress, and finished.

But if you need to take down a tree with a small, thin knife, it can be done!

Lol, I've been away from this place for a few years at a time before. I always come back though, even if I don't post a whole lot.

You should have stuck around longer. I said that I didn't know why other than to see if it would work.

Cutting down the same tree with a 1/4" thick, full tang knife or a machete wouldn't satisfy any curiosity.

My point was to do something heavy with a lightweight knife. I wanted to know if the knife would survive if I took my time and was careful to only strike the blade directly opposite to the cut.

Anyhow, no harm, just wanted to give you the rest of the story.

You mean to tell me that you have been lurking since February just for your first post to be in defense of a video that was randomly put up in the W&SS section of bladeforums?!

Anyhoo, I liked the beaver style batoning method. Shows that with a couple of love taps with a good batoning stick you can chop through anything with a fixed and I'm sure a descent folder to boot :)

A guy has to make his first post sometime, doesn't he? What better reason than to answer valid criticism?

I appreciate TheLastDaze sharing his opinion and I thought I should answer rather than ignore.
